APPLE has overtaken Google as the world's most valuable brand, ending a four-year reign by the Internet search leader, according to a new study by global brands agency Millward Brown.
The iPhone and iPad maker's brand is now worth US$153 billion (S$188.1 billion), almost half Apple's market capitalisation, says the annual BrandZ study of the world's top 100 brands. Apple's portfolio of coveted consumer goods propelled it past Microsoft to become the world's most valuable technology company last year.
Peter Walshe, global brands director of Millward Brown, says Apple's meticulous attention to detail, along with an increasing presence of its gadgets in corporate environments, have allowed it to behave differently from other consumer-electronics makers.
'Apple is breaking the rules in terms of its pricing model,'he told Reuters by telephone. 'It's doing what luxury brands do, where the higher price the brand is, the more it seems to underpin and reinforce the desire.'
'Obviously, it has to be allied to great products and a great experience, and Apple has nurtured that.' Of the top 10 brands in Monday's report, six were technology and telecoms companies: Google at number two, IBM at number three, Microsoft at number five, AT&T at number seven and China Mobile at number nine.
McDonald's rose two places to number four, as fast food became the fastest-growing category, Coca-Cola slipped one place to number six, Marlboro was also down one to number eight, and General Electric was number 10.

apple* overlords
Everybody knows that once Google releases whatever they're going to release next they'll skyrocket again
apple* overlords
No he's right, Google overlords since Apple only made it this far because of over-expensive shit.
Do either company do much stock market trading?
No, the two most valuable companies in the world don't have time for the stock market, are you crazy?
Chrome OS?
I think it's kinda sad. Google makes great innovative technology, while Apple makes shiny things.
I'm trying to see Apple in 30 years when Steve is dead. The last time he wasn't with Apple, they almost went bankrupt.
It's all Steve that did this. He can make a great sales pitch.

They'll just clone him :v:
Am I the only one that actually hates his guts?
For some reason I really doubt 1 man did everything that made Apple at least a little successful, there's thousands of Apple employees, one of them must have done SOMETHING

Statistically speaking, once he leaves they go to shit
I hate Apple as a company. They're deceiving assholes, but I love their products.
Google's still better.

Steve has vision. Woz had vision. Bill Gates had vision. Larry and Sergey have vision.
These people are the people that keep the company going, because they don't stop innovating. If someone steps up to replace anyone, they need to have a good vision and a good approach to handling that, or they'll go nowhere.
What has Balmer done for Microsoft lately?

Fuck that, he should become a techno rockstar :pcgaming:
Introducing the new Google FuckApple, it's like iTunes but it doesn't suck balls.
And then everything was good and well again.
So, Winamp?
WinAmp is getting bloated.
Once was godtier.

I never would have guessed. :v:

What gadgets get used often in conventional business?
Maybe most valuable, but definitely not the best value.

Ipads, I swear.
I agree, I don't like all the HUNDREDS OF ADDITIONAL THINGS that I don't need cluttering up the interface.
It's sad they won't release a Winamp Lite that's actually lightweight.
They once had a lite version that were the same as the usual Winamp, just with only classic skin support.
But that's not lightweight enough compared to the versions I used back in the Win98 heydays.

It's hard to say who is responsible for what at large companies, but wouldn't you say that the xbox 360, Windows Phone 7 and Windows 7 have been doing really well? Neither really have had that much bad press, all have a fairly substantial userbase (obviously in varying degrees)
Maybe most valuable, but definitely not the best value.
Google is much more valuable than Apple ever will be in terms of usefulness.
