I recently happened upon this awesome band, a unique blend of jazz, polyrhythmic metal and funk. Think Blotted Science mixed with Allan Holdsworth. So without further ado, I give you: Panzerballett Background Panzerballett was founded by guitarist Jan Zehrfeld in 2004, after a search for skilled musicians to play his compositions. Initially, the band consisted of a quartet: Jan Zehrfeld - Gutiar Gregor Bürger - Tenor Saxaphone Florian Schmidt - Bass Max Bucher - Drums In 2006, Andreas Dombert was added to the lineup as a second guitarist. Recently Sebastian Lanser has joined as the new drummer. Jan has noted his musical influences to include Meshuggah, Mats/Morgan, Dillinger Escape Plan, Screaming Headless Torsos, and Allan Holdsworth. The music is fusion based, as each member of the band comes from a different musical background. Guitar sounds are often experimental to make up for the lack of keyboards, and spacey elements were to be a feature of their sound. A metalband with a saxophonist? Bound to be awesome!
there already is a hardcore-punk/metal band with a saxophone as a main instrument called "Schweißer" they never got the attention they deserve and split up a few years ago.
