There’s a new study making the rounds about a seemingly effective male birth control. The hormonal injection, designed to slow or block sperm production, had a 96 percent success rate at preventing pregnancy among couples who completed the study. There was just one problem, according to some media reports: The new method won't be available anytime soon because the men in the study were wimps. They couldn’t handle side effects — moodiness, acne — that women on birth control deal with all the time, and so the study had to be terminated.
"Male birth control study nixed after men can't handle side effects women face daily," read the USA Today headline. The study was halted, but it wasn't because the men who participated in it were wimpy. It was halted because one of the two independent committees that were monitoring the trial's safety data was concerned about the high number of adverse events the men reported. And, yes, the rate of side effects in this study was higher than what women typically experience using hormonal birth control.
Wow, Vox being reasonable for once.
I ain't injecting shit. Figure something else out.
What ever happened to using condoms

Considering what a lot of women go through for the sake of contraception I wouldn't be dismissing a tiny prick
I would however dismiss it for being currently much much worse than any form of female contraception in terms of side effects, but hopefully that will change

Really depends on where the injection is. I'm not informed in the matter at all, but if this is injected anywhere near your dick I'm out.

You already know whats it like to have a small prick though so
I'm tired of seeing all these shit-tier facebook pages on my feed spraying out shit like "men are too weak for contraception". I don't know if the sites are just filled with people who assumed it being like that or if people are deliberately misinforming.

Yeah blame the shitty side effects on your test subjects, not your medicine
Glad Vox looked into it further
I mean, you can just tie the tubes. That works.

Unless it is specifically talking about temporary birth control.

It's in your ass.
"After completing screening, eligible couples entered the suppression phase. The male participants received 200-mg NET-EN (200 mg/mL) 1000-mg TU (250 mg/mL) by 2 separate gluteal injections every 8 weeks for up to 4 injection visits."

They're definitely talking about short-term birth control. I'm not going through surgery just so I don't have to worry about firing anymore.
I ain't injecting shit. Figure something else out.
I'm already doing this for vaccines so I couldn't care less.

I'm really not comfortable undergoing surgery, I'd much rather just have something I can swallow or something every time I want to have non-procreational sex
I don't feel like going through surgery and doing something permanent or injecting something that is still new and causing a high amount of side effects is a swift 'no' from me.
This was trending on facebook and all the comments were woman acting smug and condescending, unsurprisingly.
Also, was it just me or do none of these articles mention how long the birth control lasted? Even going through the study it was hard to tell but it seems to be eight weeks between each injection.

if it's not a pill or a physical barrier I want nothing to do with it
Several of the guys going through this have gone sterile from these tests and couple have committed suicide from this, so go figure.

according to the vox source, only one man has committed suicide, and they rules the cause was unrelated to the drug

contraceptives are supposed to be temporary, if you want permanent infertility yeah go get snipped, but this is about a medium term birth control. From what I've been seeing on these studies there was a worrying number of men who weren't regaining sperm count for a long time after its effects should've worn off, some reported 2 years before it started rising again, others have likely become permanently infertile. This is on top of (and certainly magnifies) the side effects of loss of libido, increased depression, and an increase in suicidal tendencies (*could push you over the edge on other problems you had, doesn't have to be over the drug itself). Understandably these effects are also found in women's contraceptives on the market, but has been the target of all the "wow men are wimps about this common shit" heckling we've seen over this
Needles instead of condoms? Even if there were no side effects, hella no thank you.
Needles instead of condoms? Even if there were no side effects, hella no thank you.
Something the medical industry as a whole is trying to do, is to phase out needles with patches. I would take a patch any day.

why's everybody so squirmy like they're going straight at your balls with a blood drawing needle
like already mentioned, this stuff usually goes into your ass or thigh because there's a lot of meat and you barely feel it. Hell, my wife has a weird little implant in her arm that releases the hormones that act for birth control over a number of years, stuff just needs to be in your system
The amount of people on my FB friends list quoting articles claiming its sexist etc is absurd, even article that straight up mention the reasoning behind it and go into details about the other side effects (like some men not actually recovering 1 year later)
Like im sorry to tell you this but its 2016, safe drug testing methods are not designed to just benefit one sex.

There's just a bunch of risks with needles without even discussing the injecting fluid. Slight pain, infection, disease transmission, stabbing yourself or some unintentional other place while using it, difficult to dispose of, ect.
The selling point of this product is that it works, and that's about it. Women have many different options like your wife's dispenser, the pill, tube tying, and female condoms. As of now, men only have the condom and vasectomies. A chemical male bc would be great because nothing exists that temporarily nullifies the risk of pregnancy without dressing you dick up in a rain coat. Ideally the chemical wouldn't kill your libido or induce mood swings but progress comes one step at a time.

Imagine getting hot and heavy with your girlfriend and having to pause and jam a needle up your ass before going at it.
Yeah, I'll stick with the rubbers.

The injection is designed to kill your sperm count through hormones(?), this isn't something you take right before sex you would be doing it once every <time interval here cause idk>
Needles instead of condoms? Even if there were no side effects, hella no thank you.
Do you have anything against the option though?
[editline]3rd November 2016[/editline]
Id like to add that even though the side effects were heavy, 75% of the men in the study said they would continue using the product for the length of their desired infertility if given the option.

you go to the fucking doctor and have it done to you once and you're set for years. That's why people develop hormonal contraceptive injections, it's not some pill that fucks up if you miss out on taking it a day or two in the month, it's not taken just before getting it on like viagra, nor is it like a condom you have to keep stocked up on and prepare for ahead of time, it's a long term 'set it and forget it' procedure that [shouldn't] make you permanently infertile like getting your tubes tied, so you can be frisky with far less risk of pregnancy now and still be able to plan for a family later

like holy shit read up on how contraceptives work
No condoms, no kids, all for a bit of a prickle? Fuck yeah IM IN. If there were no side effects this would've been perfect for people in long term relationships. I'm kinda surprised so many people here are so deathly afraid of a needle once and instead choose to resort to condoms.
