• Display problem

I turned on my PC this afternoon and found the monitor refusing to display anything. It showed though a generic warning to check the source cable, which I did and found it to be working fine. I decided to pry open the tower to check the components. Since it was a display problem, I thought I'd start at the GPU. I found it really dirty but I managed to remove it and get it somewhat clean with a pencil eraser. Afterwards, I tried rebooting but still no luck. Then I was started to get a little annoyed so I gave the tower one big shake and that got it to start. Now what I'm really concerned about is what happened and why did shaking it fix it? Did I perhaps break something?
If you're being serious, your graphics card might have been slightly out of place and shaking your computer might have re-seated it. Honestly though, why?
