• PC blackscreening on games

Hello 2 years ago I got my new pc, I was all happy about it. The specs are: MSI p35 neo-fir Intel core2duo e6750 @ 2,66 GHZ Zotac nVidia 9600GT AMP! (overclocked slightly, don't know anything specific) OCZ Stealth Xstream 600W PSU Creative Audigy ZS Gamer (old old soundcard, not used anymore, will take out soon) Samsung 320 GB HDD DVD Burner (if that even matters) So, the first game I tried was ofcourse crysis, ran like a charm on medium, no problems at all. Then, Modern Warfare. It worked pretty nicely, but then towards the end my pc sometimes crashed into a blackscreen (screen goes black, I can hear sound for another 2 or 3 second before it fucks up in a weird way). Then eventually, on that one map it crashed exactly 3 seconds after it was finished with loading. I thought it was faulty software. But the nightmare started: In almost every game, it started crashing just the same way! It appeared that it preferred crashing in OpenGL games more often than in directX games. For example Guild Wars: I start it up, and withing 5 minutes I'm getting a blackscreen. I get no graphic glitches or something like that at all. Updating/using older drivers is something you don't have to suggest, as this goes on for 2 years now, with regulary updated drivers, multiple formats inbetween. It does all the same on XP/Vista/7/Linux. Things I also tried was running MemTest 86+ for 23 Hours (around 56 passes) and it reported no errors. Low-level formatted my HDD once. Cooling GPU additionally (opening case, fan speed 100%, have fan infront of open case) didn't help neither. Any suggestions on what I could do to stop this madness?

I am currently running Fluidmark, and I am already at 72°C. From what it looks like it will maybe rise to 73°C, I'm leaving it on over night so I can tell you the exact temperatures tomorrow. (also my GPU doesn't have 1280mb ram, but all programs show that. Is that just windows being a whore or could that be an indicator that something's wrong?) edit: I hit 75°C, is that much?
Holy shit I didn't know speccy had that.

From my understanding you did run memtest for 56 passes with 0 errors which is good this tells us the issue is not with your memory. Your temps seem fine to me so overheating is definitely not causing this issue. Have you tried getting the latest drivers for your nvidia 9600GT? You can download the drivers here http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us If this does not help you try re-seating your nvidia 9600GT. Also what PSU do you have? Im going to need. Brand: Model No: # of Amps on the +12v Rails: Total # of Watts: If none of these solutions help you report back and we'll take it from there.
