No wonder Sony Entertainment boss Michael Lynton is leaving.
Tokyo’s Sony Corp. is listening to bank pitches about a potential sale of its film and TV operations, several sources told The Post.
“Every bank is pushing pitches,” said one person familiar with the process. Another confirmed that banks have paid a flurry of visits to Tokyo to advise on a sale of Sony’s film and TV business.

Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has denied any intent to sell the firm during the five years he’s been in the top slot at the company. Still, he has not appointed a successor to Lynton, despite knowing of his intention to depart for some time. That has sparked speculation that there may be no position to fill.
Hirai isn’t interested in selling Sony Music, sources said. The company is in good shape and is a big cash cow for the firm.

A source said Sony hasn’t yet committed to a sale at this time, because the firm wants to see how Sony’s movies perform this summer.
“They want to see how the “Emoji Movie” movie does because they think they have a franchise and it might help them get a better price,” said a source, the film, which features a poop emoji, comes out on August 4.
💩
lmao, they think it'll do well

that's what we said about Trump and look where we are now
"bet everything on the emoji movie"

It's obviously shit, but that's no reason to believe it won't do well
Just a reminder that they fucked Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Sym-Bionic Titan and Hotel Transylvania) out of his dream Popeye film to prioritise a movie about emojis.

Also when does Playstation ether separate or straight up consume the rest of Sony?
If they are looking to off their film and TV divisions, I expect their computer and cellphone to be gone soon after. The only divisions currently do well are the gaming (Playstation 4 and Playstation Plus online system) and their banking/financial division.
I'm actually kind of surprised Kaz still has his job, I know the shareholders have been quite upset with him in the past.

If their business sense is that horrible, they deserve what they have coming towards them lol.
Oh shit, whats going to happen to Jeopardy?

It's almost as if major film producers are making terrible decisions on purpose.
While I think this was talked about in the Marvel thread, I wonder where this leaves the Spider-Man film rights.

nice
nice
And it's voiced by Sir Patrick Stewart.

Hopefully Disney buys their movie division just for spidey
I can see that happening, its disney, and marvel, they want their characters back
that's what we said about Trump and look where we are now
No, that was your country that decided to separate from the EU.
I want to say how this will fail. But, we underestimate how Moms and younger kids like this stuff. There is a reason why Emoji stuff lines the walls at stores.
Oh shit, whats going to happen to Jeopardy?
Yeah what is gonna happen to Jeopardy? It's been a TV staple for generations. Then again unless Alex Trebek passes away in 2017 I don't see the show going anywhere.

What will happen to our beloved Adam Sandler movies? What about Paul Blart 3?

Netflix has already drawn the short straw on those movies

reboot ghostbusters properly too while were at it
disney is hte only one i can trust with that because their entire buisness model centers around nostalgia goggles + making something new with it at the same time. they are the nintendo of movie companies.

I would say that Universal has made some decent films with that in mind.

Seriously? They want fucking Emoji to be a major franchise?

I would say that they have no idea what they're doing and are way out of touch with reality, but after the success of the Angry Bird movie, Trolls, and the MASSIVE success of Minions, i just have no fucking idea what kids will or won't watch these days

That's... disappointingly a true thing to consider.
It'll either bomb hard and ruin Sony pictures forever or it'll be a huge success that will spawn multiple sequels and spinoffs.

Don't feel too bad, Genndy gets to go back to CN and do another season (Or more) of Samurai Jack.

They're hoping for another Adam Sandler.
Sell Spider-Man back to Marvel/Disney and then fuck off.

It pains me to say it but the Emoji movie will probably make a lot of money, animation movies are easy sells. I doubt it will sustain a failing movie division though long term.

it'd make sense as something meant to have a hot opening, looks great on paper for the immediate following future and (theoretically) garner attention and higher prices from prospective buyers, regardless of such a shallow franchise's longevity
