In fact, not only that, entire the Gulf of Mexico region is fucked up beyond repair. The ecosystem of the Gulf and its surrounding areas will struggle to recuperate from this devastating accident. It sure must suck to be one of tens of thousands of people who rely on the Gulf of Mexico for their livelihood. Luckily that isn't the case for any of us. Since this oil spill doesn't effect most of us, why shouldn't we be able to profit off of it? I'm going to be giving a little bit of financial information to everyone today, and I suggest you heed my advice.[/release] Let's take a look at the 10 year history of British Petroleum's stock. Its peak date was November 2nd, 2007. The price for a single share was $78.39. Now, if you know nothing of the stock market, that's a fuckin' lot. Now let's zoom in a little bit. April 20th, 2010. The running rate for a single B.P. share is $60.48. As you can see, there's been a moderate drop from its peak in 2007, but the stock itself has been running steadily since. On this day, several British Petroleum executives are on the platform celebrating the project's safety record. The oil rig subsequently explodes. Nine men are killed. Next graph. Soon after the evacuations from the platform were completed, the oil leak was discovered. This meant problems in the long run. Within two weeks, the British Petroleum stock plummeted. As you can see here, 13 days later, the cost of a share has dropped ten dollars. Moving on. This is the final graph I'll be showing you. It's the 5 day report for British Petroleum's stock. On May 28th, Friday, the stock closed at $42.95. There had been a gradual eight dollar drop as the the burden on B.P's back grew larger. Over Memorial Day weekend, British Petroleum attempted to stop the leak through "Operation Top-kill." Unfortunately, the plan failed and the leak continued. The failure of this operation hurt B.P's stock substantially. At the market's close today, the cost of a single B.P. share was $36.33. I'm going to wrap this up with a simple conclusion. B.P's stock prices are sinking faster than the oil rig itself. If my calculations are correct, it will play out something like this; B.P's stock will fall another ten to twenty dollars, making it not only affordable, but a resourceful stock to everyone, even if only a modicum of shares are purchased. In a matter of years, through extensive environmental marketing (go green commercials), and of course political lobbying (here have a few hookers and some blow mister senator); B.P's stock will eventually return to its former glory. I'm not saying you should invest in British Petroleum right now, as share prices are still falling, but it's a company want to keep your eyes on.
Financial ghouls: It's like the regular ones, but with suitcases.
I just learned something.
I wish I had the money to be some oil stock right now. Oil stock has always been pretty profitable come to think of it.

One of the better facepunch posts. [editline]05:41PM[/editline] Rated informative
Rated informative for sure.
Some of the shellfish hatcheries that were in the gulf coast will inevitably have to shut down or will at least slow down a ton, demand will rise, and other shellfish hatcheries such as several on the pacific coast and other unaffected areas, will make money off of meeting the new demand. That's one way you could make money off of it.
:tinfoil:
I am so doing this. So what? Fuck the enviroment, money comes first if you wear a top hat.
I would but my parents think buying oil stock is unethical. Oh, but pharmaceuticals is fine.
Well I thought it was kind of obvious. The whole point of the stock market is to buy low, sell high. I learned that in 4th grade.
I would but my parents think buying oil stock is unethical. Oh, but pharmaceuticals is fine.
Well, Gnome, the real problem at hand is that your parents are tree-hugging communists.
