I think it means that it gives better error feedback for when the renderer crashes. So they haven't fixed anything, just made it easier to identify what needs to be fixed.

Dammit Valve, fix the mat_picmip.
Well, now the game doesn't crash when I start singleplayer. But now the whole game is completely black, I can still hear the is happening and see all the pop-ups and stuff, but I can't actually see anything else.

Are you saying Portal 2 should be buggier, or that portal 2 should be patched for more? I haven't had any issues with P2. Are there some big issues right now?

The only thing is some minor flickering issues when looking at gels through portals, but I haven't gotten that myself.
It's a wonderfully finished game.
The only problem I've had with the game is the my framerate goes kinda loopy when working with a lot of gel at once.

This is the first title from VALVe that didn't present me with some sort of wonky bug on my Macbook pro. I'm extremely happy with this, and therefore extremely happy with VALVe. Let's just hope that they get cracking on that free DLC sooner rather than later. I need me some more maps to truck on through.

I kinda stutter for a tenth of a second at like five distinct points throughout the game, usually when Wheatley's talking. Might just be me, though.
Host_timescale now slowdowns sounds.

I'm sitting on a one year old laptop, which cost me 800 dollars - and I'm running the game flawlessly on everything as high as possible - and even with some eyecandy commands on.

Hopefully they fix it so I can run it off my external hard-drive, apparently Portal 2 does not like FAT32.

Well, all the mat_ commands for getting prettier details, the portal_use_dlight command, bunch of r_ commands. higher motion blur. Stuff like that.
