• Windows 7 shutting down when playing games/multitasking

So I want to know how to find out what's causing the problem. I don't know whether it's something to do with the computer or it just overheating. It doesn't crash report or anything, it just closes everything down tidily and ask's me if I want to force quit programs. It doesn't tell me why it's randomly shutting down, it just seems to do it when I play games like Garry's Mod after about 30 minutes of gameplay where as with Fallout 3 New Vegas it rarely ever does it. It also occurs when I've got a lot of programs running at once. The computer was a barebundle and it came with a fan at the front but that's the only thing I'm using to cool it, if that helps. I'm going to try find a program giving me the temperatures inside the case and I'll put them up
you can use HWmonitor to check the temps: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html but usually it would just turn off like you lost the power.
What like a power surge?
No it just cuts out like you pulled the plug out the wall.
I don't believe there are any temperature safety function in Windows 7 as that is usually handled via the motherboard. Therefore, I don't think it is an issue with temperature, but if you still think it could be, just go into your bios and check what the temp is. It could be a driver issue, or an issue with your installation of Windows. Or there possibly could be a malfunctioning program forcing a shutdown or restart. To check for that, there is a program called Winpatrol, or you can manually check out the registry. My guess is that it is a defunct program.
It may be the PSU.
could be the PSU, OP what is your Power supply?
How would it be the PSU? A bad PSU wouldn't lead to a system kindly restarting, it would lead to either windows freezing, a complete shutdown, or BSOD. The fact that the OS is shutting down shows that it isn't a hardware problem and that something on the firm or software level is the cause.
I think the most likely thing is that the bios is dectecting it to be hot and just shuts down. I downloaded Core Temp and I've set it up to record the heat increases and give me a pop up when it gets too hot. Will let you know how I get on :)
I think you computer is that dude in your avatar.
It's my computer. I checked the bios and it over heats and shuts down around 80*c which doesn't take long for it to do. I was ready to install some more fans but it seems their is only 1 connector for a fan. Does anybody know if I can daisy chain the fan connector?
My PC does this sometimes after I slightly accidentally bump my foot into it or something. Gets annoying, and after it does that and I start it again; it goes into a loop of rebooting every 10 seconds until I flip the power switch on the back of it from on to off to on again.
