• I can't log into my Windows laptop because keyboard is messed up

I cleaned my keyboard and then turned on my HP laptop. However at the password screen, when I attempted to press certain keys they either did nothing, pressed multiple times or did functions like caps lock and screen brightness. Basically the entire keyboard is a mess. I pressed some more buttons and now it changed again. The keyboard keys changes randomly when I press buttons like Shift, F8, FN and alt I also cant go into safe mode as the arrow keys dont work. My mouse still works perfectly fine. I guess I need to reset my system I had to get a new keyboard 2 years ago because I spilled water all over it, unfortunately the keyboard was only available in German so I don't know what some buttons do
Look at where the buttons are :incredible: Or just get a new keyboard.
You act as if you can't use a cheap external keyboard or use the onscreen keyboard
plug another keyboard into your laptop
If for some odd reason you do not posess a external keyboard, or any physical keyboard that can act as a replacement you can always use the On Screen Keyboard (OSK). In most cases this option can be found in the bottom right corner of the lock screen with an icon that looks like an awkward wheelchair. [t]https://technews.olemiss.edu/files/2016/07/Windows-a11y-7.jpg[/t] From there, you can turn on the OSK so you can just use the mouse to type, or setup bluetooth/wifi keyboards.
I'm fucking it up more and more. I pressed FN + numlock and restarted, and I'm greeted by a loud constant beeping sound. The safe mode text appeared really slowly. I instantly powered it off I restarted it again and it went back to what happened earlier. I'll try that OSK thing. External keyboards refuse to work I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computer problems
To add with the DE keyboard layout; STRG = CTRL Alt Gr = Extra Shift State (bottom right corner of key) The rest are umlauts. Using EN keyboards, this most likely won't do anything (US-QWERTY does not use shift states 2 & 3) ᴄʀᴀᴘ, ᴍʏ ᴍᴇʀɢᴇ ): [editline]sʜɪꜰᴛsᴛᴀᴛᴇs[/editline]
I'm fucking it up more and more. Could be the reason for a little slowdown on how text is being shown. That poor keyboard isn't very pleased today is it? You can try removing the keyboard. Usually its a cpl screws on the bottom, and a bezel at the top of the keyboard. Depends on how its made, Model# will be helpful.
Okay so I used the On Screen keyboard. I followed a guide to disable the num lock stuff. The keyboard was still fucked up as usual after logging in. Strange things happened with the mouse. Left clicking on a program/folder opened up the properties menu. Right click still worked, so I had to select the Open option every time. I located regedit.exe and went to this directory: HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard I changed InitialKeyboardIndicators (which the guide said is the value for numlock) from 2147483648 (I am pretty sure that isnt supposed to be a value) to 1 which the guide says will turn off numlock. I saved and restarted. However, now the Select operating system screen popped up, and the keyboard stopped working. Every key stopped working, and mouse did nothing. I am stuck at this screen as I cant select the Windows 7 option. I will get an external keyboard and try with that again
...so how did you clean the keyboard, exactly?
Replace the internal keyboard, eBay should have some around. Try searching for the HP spare number.

That will give you all the HP spare part numbers that you can search eBay for.
