Frederator Studios, the company behind Adventure Time, Bravest Warriors and Bee and PuppyCat, stealthily announced its latest project this week: an animated adaptation of Double Fine Productions' Costume Quest.
While it didn't actually name names, it's hard to imagine the company was implying anything else with this Facebook post:

Zac Gorman, the man behind the lovely video-game themed art blog Magical Game Time, wrote and drew Costume Quest's charming graphic novel adaptation.

cool, the game's premise fits pretty well into a kid's show
Another cartoon with noodly-armed characters! OH BABY
I've never played the Costume Quest series, but from what I have seen from screenshots, it always seemed like a game series that was made to profit off of Double Fine/Tim Schafer legacy.
I could be wrong though.

What makes you say that? I've never played it either but it always just seemed like a lighthearted RPG in the vein of Earthbound.
EDIT: Kinda seemed similar to the South Park RPG as well (even though costume quest came first, of course)

Not sure if it was the art style or if it was the implied simplicity of the gameplay from what I saw, but I chose to skip the first game back in the day.
My experience with The Cave was one of the reasons I chose not to try the first costume quest later on.
Maybe I am being too hard on a series I never tried, but Tim and Double Fine has put a bad taste in my mouth after the whole Spacebase DF-9 debacle.
I played Costume Quest and loved it! It was the cutest game everrrrrrrrr
Costume Quest as a game felt like it could transition well into a television series, at least compared to most games . . . . . . . but not with an artstyle like this.
I never played this game and the show isn't out yet but just looking at this image makes me feel like I've seen it a thousand times.

Well, Tim Schafer didn't touch the game. The creator/project lead on Costume Quest was Tasha Harris. I'm assuming it was made because she wanted to make something similar to her favorite game: Earthbound.
Can't wait to see the true hero: Candy Corn.
By the way, the character designs were done by the same guy who did these well-known Zelda comics.

These are getting incredibly stale.
[editline]16th May 2015[/editline]
Is this lazy, noodly design the norm now?
Was there really a demand for this?

At the very least, check out a playthrough of the game. It's light on RPG mechanics, but cute. And cheap!
why are you all so pessimistic jeeze Frederator Studios has a track record of consistently putting out great cartoons. if anybody can do it it's these guys
I don't like the show's art style in the sense that it's yet another show with a simplistic noodle-limbed art style. I feel the style is overused and possibly even getting stale at this point. I think the surge of noodle-limbed art styles is mainly due to Adventure Time's influence on the Western animation industry nowadays (at least as far as children's shows). It seems like you can rarely see something that Pendleton Ward/Adventure Time hasn't influenced in one way or another.
i like the artstyle, its like something out of a kids book

maybe that's because IT'S THE SAME STUDIO THAT MAKES ADVENTURE TIME

Yes I know that. I meant my comment to be taken as more of an opinion on a general trend I'm seeing. I should have worded my comment more clearly and I am sorry for that
Oh no, not that guy. He inserts pretentious aphorisms into fucking everything.

Like I said, character designer. I don't know what the rest of his involvement in the show is.
i'm alright with the noodle-arms thing because everything else about the show is different.
the way the outlines are styled give it a tinge of ed edd n eddy, which adds some uniqueness to each character. even though their shapes and proportions are the same at a baseline, the color palettes are different and each character manages to co-exist with one another without looking too samey.
it's a combination of styles we haven't seen before, and i'm okay with that. people have to stop focusing on the whole noodle arms trend as it isn't really lazy. boring, maybe, but not lazy, because you actually have to draw each frame for those noodles to look noodley. people are treating it like it's the new dreamworks face (which with some foresight applied ended up being preposterous as well.) /rant
Noodle-arms are popular in cartoon artstyles? None come to mind immediately other than Adventure time for me.
Besides, what's wrong with noodle arms anyway? Their use in animation is quite splendid, flexible, and creative, and still looks nice... perfect for children's shows. Never thought anything bad about them before. I like them!

I would imagine that they feel that it would be nice if more shows were more diverse and had some variety between each other, or at least something like that. Personally, I don't mind the noodle arms either, but I don't blame them that much.
I feel like there's quite the age gap since the article and you're all praising the studio for Adventure Time, when to me, they're the studio that did The Fairly Oddparents.
Then again, Adventure Time came out when I was already in college

Fairly Oddparents was always an okay TV show to me, and its later seasons definitely don't do it justice.
Danny Phantom, however, was fucking cool.

Fairly Odd Parents was my time, but even then I thought the show was pretty mediocre most of the time.

I liked TFOP during the earlier seasons. Nowadays you can clearly tell the show is way past its prime but like Spongebob I don't see Nickelodeon cancelling the show anytime soon (Though the creator Butch Hartman isn't blameless to be fair). Personally I thought TFOP should have ended after the Channel Chasers special aired. It seemed like it would have been a fitting end to the series.

Tbh the baby killed it, not to mention the dog as well.
