• Apple Suit Puts Samsung Tablet Sales in Australia on Hold
Apple Inc. won an agreement from Samsung Electronics Co. that the South Korean company won’t sell the newest version of its tablet computer in Australia until a patent lawsuit in the country is resolved. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 infringes 10 Apple patents, including the “look and feel,” and touchscreen technology of the iPad, Steven Burley, a lawyer for Apple, told Federal Court Justice Annabelle Bennett in Sydney yesterday. The Cupertino, California-based company sought an Australian injunction and also wants to stop Samsung from selling the tablet in other countries, Burley said without specifying where. Samsung, based in Suwon, South Korea, agreed to stop advertising the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia and not to sell the device until it wins court approval or the lawsuit is resolved, according to an accord reached by lawyers during a break in the hearing. Should Apple lose its patent infringement lawsuit, it agreed to pay Samsung damages, which weren’t specified. The dispute between the companies began in April when Apple sued Samsung in the U.S., claiming the Galaxy products “slavishly” imitated the designs and technologies used for its iPad and iPhone. Samsung, which supplies memory chips for Apple, retaliated with lawsuits in South Korea, Japan, Germany and the U.S. [h=2]Australian Injunction[/h]The Australian injunction is necessary because Samsung has had “announcements of an imminent launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 device ongoing since July 20,” Burley said before the agreement was announced. Apple is basing yesterday’s claim on a U.S. version of the Galaxy tablet, which is different from the one that will be sold in Australia, Samsung’s lawyer Neil Murray said. Samsung agreed to provide Apple three samples of the Australian version of the computer tablet at least seven days before it planned to start distributing it so the U.S. company could review it, according to the agreement submitted in court. Bennett scheduled a hearing for Aug. 29 to review the status of the case and set a trial date if necessary. The case is: Apple Inc. Apple is trying to become a monopoly, time to cut 3/4's of the company. They're pouting and screaming like a child that wants ALL the candy from ALL the other children near him.
SAMSUNG : Introducing, The smartphone! APPLE: Here's our version of your product with copied features. SAMSUNG RELEASES NEW VERSION OF PHONE. APPLE : YOU COPED US THE SMARTPHONE IS OUR INVENTION
Apple...mature.
lmao
What a bunch of asshats. I wish Apple were still buying processors from Samsung, they could get all the defects!
What a bunch of asshats. I wish Apple were still buying processors from Samsung, they could get all the defects!
Except they would get less defects with Samsung because apple is just one giant defect in itself.
Apple as it stands now.
Look and feel? That's extremely vague, how did that even get a pass in terms of passing through Australian court? Also, touchscreen technology? They mean multitouch surfaces? Are they high?
Apple couldn't pull this shit here in the states because of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, but right now i think it's high-time the act was used again and apple was broken down.
SAMSUNG : Introducing, The smartphone! APPLE: Here's our version of your product with copied features. SAMSUNG RELEASES NEW VERSION OF PHONE. APPLE : YOU COPED US THE SMARTPHONE IS OUR INVENTION
I'm not sure why this post is getting zings. Samsung didn't invent the smartphone and neither did Apple. Either way software patents are a horrible idea. At one point the patent office was reluctant to even award software patents. I wonder why they changed their mind.
Fuck off Apple. Once Steve Jobs is gone I hope you go down the shitter.
Apple: Nice phone Samsung, can I try make one? Samsung: Sure, have fun bro. Apple: Wow stop copying me I'm telling wow someone help. Apple, stop suing everyone, it makes you look very unprofessional.
Tbh I prefer the samsung phones over the iphones.
tbh pmuch every phone is better than the iphone stuff
Tbh I prefer the samsung phones over the iphones.
I agree, eg the SGS2 is a much more capable device than the iphone. Thats exactly why these sorts of lawsuits are taking place
Apple is trying to become a monopoly, time to cut 3/4's of the company. They're pouting and screaming like a child that wants ALL the candy from ALL the other children near him.
Well they do have the money to do it. They have more money in holding than the US government. Infact they could buy out the whole mobile industry... i'm guessing they're just waiting to make the right move... or just see how high they can go. At the moment they hold like $75 bil
This is there game plan because at the end of the day, iphone users see android users doing great things and getting a lot more thing for free and if Apple do not get rid of that they will loose sales. However by doing this they drive away the IT crowd but leave the uninformed masses.
Copied the "look and feel." aha, oh wow. Pretty sure tablets existed before Apple made the iPad or iPod
wait so are you guys dumbing the op because the op is dumb or is it because apple is dumb
wait so are you guys dumbing the op because the op is dumb or is it because apple is dumb
It's because Apple is dumb, It's the only thing they excel at after being money grubbing cunts with a rabid userbase.
and I planned to buy a Samsung tablet for my birthday :smith:
Fuck Apple. Who would buy their shitty fucking products.
Samsung, which supplies memory chips for Apple
I think I know what Samsung should stop doing
Fuck Apple. Who would buy their shitty fucking products.
A lot of people
All companies practice this patent warfare. This culture is typical of a competitive capitalist market. Why is everyone so upset about apple in particular? If you don't like their products then simply don't buy them. No need to winge about it. If you don't like the market environment, well then that's a problem that is bigger than just Apple and would need changes in the patent system itself to provide any real change in this culture. As long as companies can practice this, even if its for only a slight reward, then they will. Personally, I don't care. It has had a very minimal effect on me as a consumer. And I hold the good that the patent system does do in high regard, in spite of whatever perceived evils it brings with it.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/02/samsung-will-release-galaxy-tab-10-1-in-australia-despite-apple/ Haha, Samsung is ignoring the little bitches and continuing with their launch in australia!
