I'm using a DVI->HDMI cable for my computer monitor, which came with my graphics card (ATI Radeon 4890HD). This used to work just fine, but a while ago my monitor started having problems with the input signal. It would randomly turn off and immediately turn on again, or go to sleep because the signal was lost or even say the signal was out of range. I'm starting to get the idea it's because of my non-standard resolution (1920x1200). However, all of the above problems are fixed by pushing the cable really hard into the input socket on the monitor. Here's a video of what happens:

Now, this is where it gets interesting. I of course also use an HDMI cable between my PS3 and my TV, but it has almost the same issues. When I've just started my PS3, the screen will randomly go black once every 4 minutes, but the sound will continue to play (which is also transfered through the HDMI cable). After about 20 minutes, the TV completely refreshes the input signal (It'll display the box saying I'm using HDMI input 2 again, like when you switch channels) and after that it doesn't happen anymore at all.
Any idea what's going wrong? Bad quality HD cables?
I'm a little confused. You're using one HDMI cable to go from your PS3 and TV, and one which is DVI->HDMI, to hook your computer and monitor together. Yet both are giving problems?
Yes, exactly. But I don't think they both have the same cause. The PC problem is a lot more urgent.
Well, all I can recommend to try and fix your screen, is to get another cable, to make sure it's not the screen itself that's causing issues. Have you tried different resolutions/updating your video card drivers?
My GeForce card, at the first driver, doesn't support certain resolutions. When I re-installed Vista, I noticed that if I turned the resolution above 1280x1024, it flickered/stretched/randomly turned on and off. After I updated it, everything was fine.
Buy new HDMI cables, maybe. Current ones may be loosing too much signal, causing the digital signal to fail.
You've probably got a short or something. Just make sure it is in fact your cable giving you issues. Borrow another from a friend and see if it works before you try to replace your HDMI cable.
I had the same issue. Your cable may be damaged at the plug or even in the middle of the wire.
I bought a new cable (a lot cheaper and longer, 5m) and I don't have any issues. The old one lasted about 4 months. This one is about 6 months old now :v:
