I know that General Discussion does not like most threads that are links copied and pasted but I found one on Reddit of a guy who has had Lymphoma for a long time and it has spread and has opted to commit suicide this Tuesday. (legally commit suicide based on Oregon state law for terminally ill residents) He spent a while talking to people about his condition and his state of mind; it really is an amazing read. I was just wondering what other people think about assisted suicide and this guys story, rather it be true or not. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/fy6yz/51_hours_left_to_live/ Personally I think it is a good idea if done under the right conditions and this seems to be one of them.
You mean euthanasia? But yeh, I guess it's becoming more common. In Sweden you're not allowed to give anyone euthanasia at all but people are debating wether to change the law or not.

Mainly they just provide the facility and set it all up properly so nothing wrong happens. Then the person must press the button themselves in order to make it all happen. I am not sure if they use euthanasia but it makes sense that they probably would.
This made me cry like a baby. This man is strong.
Fuck, that was depressing. Really good words spoken there on Reddit.
Oh look, this thread again. Because we really need another ethical shit storm.
Actually, I don't recall recent shitstorms about drugs, religion, and ethics that were on the level of earlier years.
Oh man, when he posted saying "This is my world tour" and all the comments are from people telling him where they're from really tugged on something deep down.
For terminal ill people or people with serious disabilities, I think it should be allowed. I don't think assisted suicide for healthy adults should be allowed.
IMO, euthanasia should be considered legal. It's your own body, and you hold the right to control it. It's often better for a person to be placed into eternal sleep rather than suffering great amounts of physical pain for the rest of his or her already-shortened life, knowing that the patient will die anyways. .
For terminal ill people or people with serious disabilities, I think it should be allowed. I don't think assisted suicide for healthy adults should be allowed.
Why would a healthy adult ever want to commit suicide?
Why would a healthy adult ever want to commit suicide?
The term "healthy" in this case only includes physical features of an adult. There are potentional mental and emotional obstructions in an person's life.
Damn, the link in OP is a very sad read
"Assisted Suicide" sounds more like pointing an unloaded gun at a cop so he'll shoot you.
"Assisted Suicide" sounds more like pointing an unloaded gun at a cop so he'll shoot you.
Suicide by cop! :eng101: Sadly, it happens more often than you think it would. Someone decides he doesn't want to live, and a cop lives with the guilt of being the pawn of an insane man's wishes.
That man, wow. :smith:
Actively assisting in suicide is currently illegal in Finland, but if your body relies on a machine (edit: or medication) to live, you can deny medical help and die. I'm not sure if that means you won't be getting any drugs to help ease any potential pain though.
Kinda sad OP. Goodluck for this one.
The "world tour" thread made me tear up.
As long as your lifespan is significantly shortened I see no problem with assisted suicide. But people who suicide because they're afraid of life are pussies and should man the fuck up, even if they are women. Grow a beard you pussies.
I did a report on this in school. It came to the point where I could not find any resources on the internet so I grabbed a piece of paper and a sharpie and made my own poll!:black101:
I don't see why there is even a debate here, what right does anyone have to say "no you aren't allowed to die"?
Christians think they are Gods police, so they think they do.

Grow a beard you pussies.
What if you had a disease in which you lived hundreds of years in brutal agonizing pain? Does anyone remember the suicide note that was posted here a few months back by the guy who was repeatedly abused for most of his childhood, endured the pain for another 15 years and finally killed himself? Would you characterize him as a 'pussy' who was 'afraid of life'. [editline]7th March 2011[/editline]
Christians think they are Gods police, so they think they do.
I never understood why Christians try to legally enforce their moral systems on others. If you believe you've tried to save them, and they're going to hell anyway, what difference does it make?
Christians think they are Gods police, so they think they do.
Can't agree more. And they "sometimes" "forget" that others have different beliefs.
Christians think they are Gods police, so they think they do.
yes all Christians think they are God's police sigh
If someone is in bad health, and doesn't really have the power to live anymore, you don't leave them lying in their own shit now do you?
It's kind creepy seeing someone talking about their imminent death.
It's kind creepy seeing someone talking about their imminent death.
Accepting your fate is the way every man should die
Wow, this is interesting, thanks for sharing OP
Good for him. Between this and abortion, I get very upset when people try to tell others what they can and cannot do with their bodies.
