It was midnight in the Turkish capital, just two and a half hours into the attempted coup, and the group of nine senior ministers who were gathered in a conference room at the prime ministry were convinced that they were all about to meet their end.
“They probably will be successful and we will die tonight,” said one of the ministers, according to an official who was present at the meeting. “Let us be ready to die. We will all be martyred in this fight.”
He sent his bodyguard to fetch his personal gun. Security forces charged with protecting the building had been escorted out of the room in a sombre scene, because ministers did not know who to trust in the middle of the unfolding coup.
They were in the meeting when the state broadcaster, TRT, was taken over by the rebels and the channel’s anchorwoman was forced to read a statement declaring the military was in control and denouncing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The cabinet fell into utter silence for two minutes.
Great article that lays out how it all went down, including two failed attempts to capture/kill Erdogan during the coup
Back at the prime ministry, despair was setting in. They had resolved to make a final stand in the parliament, when Erdoğan appeared on a live broadcast at 12.37am on a reporter’s iPhone, exhorting the people to defend democracy.
“What is FaceTime? Why don’t I have it?” asked one of the ministers in attendance.
“That was the moment when the psychology were reversed and we thought we were going to win,” said Haşimi.
This really smells like PR.
Not a false flag everyone, here let me give you multiple exact quotes from a highly stressful situation. Oh and we found thousands of betrayers in one day that we will replace conveniently.
two F-16 fighter jets locked their radar targeting system on the president’s plane ... didn’t fire after the presidential plane’s pilot told the fighter jet pilots over the radio that it was a Turkish Airlines flight, a senior counter-terrorism official told the Guardian.
Well that explains that, a lot of us were wondering why they didn't fire after locking on in a previous thread

But didn't Edrogan have two F16 escorts?
"At least two F-16s harassed Erdogan's plane while it was in the air and en route to Istanbul. They locked their radars on his plane and on two other F-16s protecting him," a former military officer with knowledge of the events told Reuters.
Is it normal for regular passenger flights to have F16s escorting them?
So the two F-16 pilots who were told exactly where to find Erdogan's plane and flew directly to it were convinced when they were told that it was a Turkish Airlines flight despite it being clearly marked as a government plane and having two jets escorting it? Yeah okay sure I believe that. Wow Erdogan's pilots must be grade A dupesters. They duped the fuck out of those totally not fake fighter pilots. When does the Turkish government go full North Korea and try to tell us that it was actually Erdogan himself that fooled them because he's so amazing at everything?

There was no F16' escout, they were large birds.
Yeah ok, fuck that. I had a really hard time believing this to be a real coup already, but this is some incredibly obvious fucking propaganda bullshit.

This is Schrodingers coup.
It was simultaneously done by a very small group that had practically no backing and were incredibly incompetent, and a very dangerous and calculating group that almost won.

The coup is as strong or as weak as Erdogan needs it to be to support whatever he is trying to do.
Calling bullshit on the f16 bit. Everyone on FP knew exactly which plane was Erdogan's, if the coup plotters didn't know for sure then they were so incompetent that there was no way they were going to succeed.
Seems pretty out of place, at the very least they would of had it divert to another airfield. I'm more inclined the pilots just choked and didn't realize what they were apart of, other than it being a setup.

Which is strange, because didn't the airplanes bomb some buildings?

Shot down a helicopter I believe.

There was 2 F-16's and two Super Cobras used by the rebels, one of the Super Cobras was downed.
