WEST LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KABC) -- It's the latest in niche programming -- a TV show devoted exclusively to marijuana. The show's producer says his audience is hungry for more.
Brad Lane is a television producer on a mission. While some might say his new TV show is half-baked, Lane would probably tell you it's almost completely baked.
"The name of our show is 'Cannabis Planet,'" said Lane. "We're all about the merits of cannabis plant. Industrially, agriculturally, medicinally."
Lane's half-hour show airs twice a week on KJLA. It features marijuana-related news, marijuana growing tips and even marijuana cooking advice from a bona fide chef.
Story: Burbank class teaches legal pot growing "I'm showing them that they can ingest it in every single meal of their life," said Chef Mike Delao.
"Cannabis Planet" is a relatively low-budget endeavor. Lane says it costs about $10,000 a week to produce. He wants to eventually air it in every state that allows medical marijuana.
It's fair to say he has high hopes for the show.
"I get a ton of positive email from basically all around the world and all walks of life," said Lane.
Lane says after just seven episodes, "Cannabis Planet" is starting to break even thanks to a handful of advertisers with names like Big Bud and MediCann.
"Cannabis Planet" was originally going to air on KDOC in Orange County, but Lane says station management got cold feet. Lane then took "Cannabis Planet" to KJLA and its potentially five million viewers. Lane claims his late-night show most likely will be watched in about 30,000 homes.

That's evidence, perhaps, that local TV is indeed going to pot.
"You bet TV is going to pot, and it's a good thing," said Lane.
Probably.
I've seen plenty of shows on marijuana before. Some were one-time special program things, and others were full series's. They never work out because there isn't really a lot to know about pot, and nobody cares about it unless they or someone they know is doing it.

Yea, I don't really smoke anymore(I used to be a big stoner), but marijuana culture is pretty fascinating. I love learning about growing and news on the shit for some reason.
It's good to see this harmless plant is getting more publicity and if this goes on, it may be decriminalized in 20 or so years.

20? Fuck that. I'm moving to Amsterdam.
Awesome. I'm surprised that this show is being aired in the US. Hope it becomes a success, I'd like to see it aired in more areas than just LA.
Also wow, this is kind of old, Sept. '09.
You guys do know that smoking weed is bad for you right??
You guys do know that smoking weed is bad for you right??
You do know that using two punctuation marks at the end of the same sentence is just as bad for you, right?
Did booze have its own radio show during prohibition?
You guys do know that smoking weed is bad for you right??
So is McDonalds but they aren't banned.
When they showed the part about they guy who teaches how to grow it, you see him going, "um... uhhhh... um.." I'm sure he is high while teaching.
I watched it when it first started a few months back, it's alright but is basically a shitty low budget news show about weed.
They never work out because I don't know a lot about pot
Fixed
Do they have gardening section where they teach you how to grow weed?
Hell yes, hopefully it won't be taken down. :350:
It's just not as fun doing weed when it's socially acceptable.
This just in, Australia bans TV since people in California have been using it to inject drugs in their bodies.
Really, why does every news editor feel the need to include horrible puns in their articles about drugs?
