Dark Souls was great but someone needs to make a worthy successor. The current games like it that get called DS clones do some new things that are great but at the end of the day, they're not better than DS or even as good
tbh I want DS to make a return in either a same or new form but do everything 100% fresh and just like DS1 did, with the benefits of 2/3 2 was fresh because it was a really 'new' take to the same game, and had some improved mechanics, but had its flaws as well 3 was pretty much 1 but with some massive improvements and a few cons as well compared to 1. I'd say 3 is better than 1 in every way minus it having a pussy difficulty in comparison and having level design designed around teleportation, which was 2's greatest issue. Best way to do this is spend a few years doing completely different shit and returning maybe 2-3 years later and starting from scratch. Trying to make Estus less unfairly instant so you have to actually think about chugging in PVE and PVP rather than simply having it be an artificial extension of your health-bar, trying to make the game still nice and quick like in 3 but magic actually usable like it was in 2, with the level design style of 1. Also, kind of hate all the flashy bullshit they added in ds3. Too many really fucking asinine movesets. Say what you want about ds2 but it didn't have nearly the flashy bullshit that ds3 has, though that whip sword was 100% a pissing fest.
I'd say DS 2's bone fist was more anime than anything in DS 3.
ds3 has a list of weapons where you literally spin around like an asshat it even has a katana combo weapon where you jump in the air and slice-attack midair the bone fist was just a silly punch combo weapon with a jump kick, pretty far from the insane shit we have in ds3
I'd say DS 2's bone fist was more anime than anything in DS 3.
Friede's great scythe in DS3 had an ability that literally made your character slow "bad-ass anime guy" walk until you attacked, and the attack was firing out ice crystals along the ground that exploded like some kind of naruto ninja jutsu while your character spun around in the air. I don't think you can get more anime than that.
ds3 has a list of weapons where you literally spin around like an asshat it even has a katana combo weapon where you jump in the air and slice-attack midair the bone fist was just a silly punch combo weapon with a jump kick, pretty far from the insane shit we have in ds3
Every game since DS1 has had Artorias' sword. It too makes you spin around like an idiot. The bone fist has a jumpkick and some sort of force attack. The game had twinblades, which are pretty anime. The Ivory straight sword is some kind of lightsaber. The smelter hammer had a ridiculous anime moveset when powerstanced. Maybe you forgot these weapons, but just because you don't remember them doesn't mean DS2 didn't have a ton of "anime weapons". Friede's scythe is literally the attack Friede does. People are constantly asking for boss weapons that have the same moveset as the boss, but when you finally get them you're going to complain?
I'm not even sure where the word "Anime" is coming from in this, I said "FLASHY" not "anime" look at Gaels sword, look at the paired greatswords for god sake DS2 had some bullshit weapons (Like I never said it didn't have them, so I'm not sure where you are coming from) but DS3 has weapons that are just the ace in the whole for unfitting nonsense. If you think something like the bonefist is worse than the paired swords than fuck me, I don't even know what to think, at least the bonefist was practical. [editline]5th May 2017[/editline] The smelters hammer spin attack was pretty much just a spin, not something that looked FLASHY, silly yes, but it wasn't some show-off nonsense [editline]5th May 2017[/editline] Point is, DS2 just doesn't have nearly the same level of flashy bullshit, no matter how much anyone wants to say it doesn't. You don't get nearly as many weapons where you spin around thrice and then do a triple backflip and strike a pose at the same time like some kind of asshat. Everything that was flashy outside of the whipsword in ds2 was pretty easy to manage, but in ds3 it gets spammed constantly and works like shit. And point is, shit like that needs to be removed, because it's insanely obnoxious shit that terrible players stick to and it never works effectively. Really the thing about dark souls is even something like the greatsword feels realistic because of how it acts and moves. It's retardedly big and heavy but it's believable because it really throws its weight like it would if carried by a super-human. Spinning and front flipping with twin greatswords is not dark souls, its stupid, and completely negates all of the good work put into making weapons feel weighty just for fan service.
I used the word anime because that's pretty much what everyone uses to describe overly flashy moves.
ds3 has a list of weapons where you literally spin around like an asshat it even has a katana combo weapon where you jump in the air and slice-attack midair the bone fist was just a silly punch combo weapon with a jump kick, pretty far from the insane shit we have in ds3
dude it had a motherfucking hadouken
dude it had a motherfucking hadouken
I'm not sure what the point of pointing this out is? ok? I mained the bone fists at one point, I've done a huge amount of PVP in it. I know the in's and outs of this shit. The move was useful in PVP and worked to punish idiots. But even the bone fist is still practical in the DS universe. Anime weapons and "Moves" aren't the issue, Dark Souls is a game that is literally inspired by a Manga, and anime weapons are pretty much all over the place. Its all about how practical it is for the character to actually pull off the move and how believable it is in a fight. Dark Souls is grounded neck deep in weapons feeling like they can actually be used. Big ass swords are slow and deal, as expected, massive damage, and slow weapons are fast. But then we have some pretty Shoalin monk type shit but with giant swords. Not only this, but a huge number of weapons are used in a way that actual swordsmen don't use. Long swords are used with brute force and clumsy grace. Not many in the souls universe are actually trained to fight properly. They literally are forced to learn on their own.
dude it had a motherfucking hadouken
I still think the explaination for the powers it gave you was better "Salvaged from a malformed creature. Enables one to fight with inhuman strength, as if the very spirit of the bone's malicious owner had taken control. " Compared to the descriptions from Dark Souls 3, where it is stated that you suddenly learned to flip and jump around like a man that was inebriated by a powerful external source
Dark souls is practically as close to "if anime were literally real" as you can get while still being realistic its amazing for that tbh
