Time to put Nintendo down to rest. Wii U already is discontinuing production in a few months and now they are building their next console on a gimmick controller again? How hard is it to just use the Wii U pro controller for the official controller scheme?
people are going to eat it up regardless of how gimmicky it is.
now they are building their next console on a gimmick controller again?
For the forth console in a row, no less.
gimmick controller again?
Yeah, and who does this appeal to? They designed a controller as a phone, which is terrible for gaming. Mobile players don't care about handhelds. Console players don't want a phone. This is an amazing fuck up imo. After the Wii U absolutely cratered, they make another console with an expensive controller and an even murkier target audience. Real or not, (please not real) this all makes me nervous.
You gotta be willing to enjoy things. The pessimism around anything weird with Nintendo is really lame.
For the forth console in a row, no less.
I will always defend the GameCube controller as one of the best ever made. I don't get why people call it gimmicky.

It's a concept, people. Holy shit. Every console has dozens of ridiculous prototypes. They even mention in the article that they don't know if it's a real one or not.
I will always defend the GameCube controller as one of the best ever made. I don't get why people call it gimmicky.
Nothing gimmicky other than the L and R triggers, in my opinion.
You gotta be willing to enjoy things. The pessimism around anything weird with Nintendo is really lame.
I still play my Wii all the time and I absolutely love the Wii U. But this is probably the strangest design decision I've ever seen.

Would have to be one hell of a coincidence for two fakes in the same week to be so similar in production quality. It may be a prototype, but they are staying very close to the original patent design. Don't expect any major changes. The old news: (which looks super fake imo, but the placement of the stuff at the bottom not shown on the patent is all the same between the two.)
It's a concept, people. Holy shit. Every console has dozens of ridiculous prototypes.
Anyone remember the PS3 boomerang controller? :v:
Well now that I'm sitting here thinking about it you could include the Famicom and NES in that list as well, since they chose to not rip off Atari's design and go with the money saving option of using the buttons from the Game & Watches. Along with adding the microphone in the Player 2 controller in the Famicom, I guess.
gamecube controller is literal shit once the nostalgia goggles come off.
How so?

If nintendo actually makes a decent console in terms of hardware (it doesnt even have to compete with the ps4 or xbox one, it just needs to be modern), then they stand a chance
gamecube controller is literal shit once the nostalgia goggles come off.
The GameCube controller is literally just fine. It holds well in the hands, all the buttons are easy to reach and the layout isn't super confusing. There are reasons why they went out of their way to make an adapter for it for Smash 4. The only thing i can really say it's lacking is a second proper stick and even then most games made do just fine. [Editline] fjsjfbe [/editline] And thinking about it, controllers didn't really start making second sticks a basic feature until the Seventh generation, so even that point is moot.

There's no reason to quit production with Zelda U and Star Fox Zero coming out anyways. Also there's a reason they give you a choice between like 4 controllers already. And this alleged NX controller is neither confirmed nor obviously the final product.
gamecube controller is literal shit once the nostalgia goggles come off.
Gamecube controller is so great its ridiculous. If it had a second should button and clickable sticks it would blow every other homeconsole controller out of the water.
Nothing gimmicky other than the L and R triggers, in my opinion.
More controllers need dual-action triggers like that. You can add some cool functionality with it. Off the top of my head: partial pull can shoot a single shot or burst from a gun while clicking it in can shoot it full-auto.
gamecube controller is literal shit once the nostalgia goggles come off.
I disagree. I've used a NGC controller for the first time a few months ago and I love it - hell, I prefer it over the Pro controller. It's really comfortable, its blocky design really has it fit right in your hands and, for once, my thumb doesn't start hurting when using the analog stick really quick! It's like it was made to play Smash Brothers. The thing with the Z button and the triggers is a little weird, but you can get used to it.
gamecube controller is literal shit once the nostalgia goggles come off.
idk I actually don't find the PS controllers that appealing because the control stick positions still feel like an afterthought from when they were first implemented mid-generation nearly 20 years ago. Only controller I think is outright superior to the GC is the Xbox 360 format (and possibly Wii U pro).
It looks like a smartphone with one of those gamepad addons built into it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/sgsULSX.jpg[/t]
You gotta be willing to enjoy things. The pessimism around anything weird with Nintendo is really lame.
I'm perfectly willing, but using controllers without handles is a little uncomfortable in my hands from personal experience. If I use my 3DS for too long my fingers start hurting from supporting it the whole time via two fingers instead of 4-6 like a more standard controller. If they go forward with this design, I imagine someone will make an addon to add handles anyway like they've done with the 3DS, not to mention third party controllers. The issue with that is that people will see the stock controller and go "that looks dumb" and that might put them off buying it a little bit. [editline]a[/editline] Nevermind, now that I look at that second image on the right, it looks like it actually does have handles? In which case I don't mind as long as it's comfortable.

[t]http://www.destructoid.com/ul/349431-/R_fElouW large-noscale.jpg[/t]
ehghghghg. this might be just one of many prototypes they have which just happens to get leaked - perhaps because it's concept has already been scrapped. there's dozens of wacky ideas that float around and which get (partially) produced or prototyped until you get close to the final product.
The GameCube controller is literally just fine. It holds well in the hands, all the buttons are easy to reach and the layout isn't super confusing.
nintendo could keep making weird consoles for 200 years they have mad money
It's not about them running out of money, it's about them shifting away from game consoles if it becomes unprofitable. Money only serves to have more time to find another profitable venue.
It looks like a suppository.
What if its like a Dreamcast VMU situation? Like if the controller slides into a larger portion that has physical buttons and stuff. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e2/Sega-Dreamcast-Cont-n-VMU.jpg[/t]
You gotta be willing to enjoy things. The pessimism around anything weird with Nintendo is really lame.
It's been like this ever since the NES hit North American shores 30 years ago. It's one of the constants in video game history.
