Mr Trump's hosting of Mr Turnbull at the White House comes just days after 17 people were killed in a school shooting in Florida.
During a joint press conference, Mr Turnbull was asked if he spoke to Mr Trump about toughening gun laws, like Australia did after the Port Arthur massacre.
Mr Turnbull trod carefully, making it clear he was satisfied with Australia's gun laws, but declining to advise Mr Trump to follow a similar path.
"It's a completely different context historically, legally and so forth," Mr Turnbull said.
You're such a spineless cunt Turnbull

I mean he is but I dont exactly blame him for steering clear of this debate

I agree, I don't want to get into hot diplomatic water because Australia advises it's bigger, and burlier brother how it should run its own life, especially if Australia depends on them.

The alternative is trying to talk sense into the world's biggest manchild.
I'm siding with Turnbull on this one.

I hate turnbull but he did the right thing
he'd get huge amounts of shit for choosing a side. The best thing was just to say that it's their problem and that they should fix it themselves (which is true)
Even if Turnbull did advise what are the chances of Trump actually listening
Even if Turnbull did advise what are the chances of Trump actually listening
He is more likely to do the opposite out of sheer bloody-minded spite.
You're such a spineless cunt Turnbull
Not really. He's making the decision not to intentionally go into the back of a flaming lorry on a motorway. Hardly a coward's decision.
"Leader of a nation decides not to get into debate with leader of gigantic military and economic ally with a penchant for tantrums"
Like are we supposed to be weirded out by that? Are we supposed to normalize countries' leaders telling another leader "Hey you should do X"?

What if Turnbull gave Trump what Trump sees as "bad advice"
Now Australia has to renegotiate economic deals with the US because "we're getting a raw deal".
Remember that Turnbull was the guy who made that satirical Donald Trump speech and was recorded doing it, so I don't think that he's afraid of criticising him - merely protecting his country from any effect, however small it might be. This comes from somebody who likes that the UK banned guns, even though I'd quite like to fire one. :P
for some reason the actually important part of the article is added as a footnote to this bullshit about the gun laws
Mr Turnbull also used the press conference at the White House to praise Mr Trump's tax cuts and further argue for similar reductions in Australia.
The Coalition Government is determined to cut the corporate tax rate from 30 to 25 per cent, but Labor is refusing to support the plan in full.
Mr Trump signed a $US1.5 ($1.9) trillion tax cut into law last year, cutting taxes for corporations and the wealthy.
"We have been inspired, I have to say, by your success in securing the passage of the tax reforms through the Congress," Mr Turnbull said.
"We have secured some tax reforms, in terms of reducing company tax, but not as much as we need to do, we've got more work to do."
and he does indeed act like a spineless cunt in this part
