• Fit to fly? Balance Board tapped to detect shifty characters at airports
Nervous flyers, beware: a Department of Homeland Security-funded project is investigating whether Wii Fit Balance Boards might be good ways to detect signs of tension or unease in airport security lines. The next step in the War on Terrorism? As somewhere over 20 million Wii Fit owners know, the Balance Board can detect your precise balance point, making it a perfect keep-fit tool -- but the Future Attribute Screening Technology project hopes detecting physiological signs -- including rapid shifts in balance -- will help identify passengers who may have hostile intentions. "Researchers took a Wii balance board...and altered it to show how someone's weight shifts. Studies are now under way to determine whether there is a level of fidgeting that would suggest the need for secondary screening," CNN said. The Balance Board is just one of a suite of sensors the Boston-based project is trialing; others include eye trackers and devices that record respiratory and heart rates. Researchers say their goal is to have a system ready for field tests in 2011.
I just don't see how this is going to work... What if someone has a legit fear of flying, or is on their way to a stressful event? This is the stupidest idea I've heard of in a while.
What if someone has a legit fear of flying, or is on their way to a stressful event? This is the stupidest idea I've heard of in a while.
As long as they don't look arab they'll be fine, as I recall airport security people generally being stereotypical.
I had to do secondary screening when I was 15 once. It was really boring.
God damn it I fucking hate this "War on Terrorism" shit. I always get stares from security when I'm at the airport (in america) Motherfuckers.
What happens if I have parkinsons?
I bet soon if you do so much as look around a bit you'll be marked as a terrorist and you can never fly on a plane again in your life.
I'm going to fucking do that, then I'll pull out the Quran and read a little bit. INFRONT OF THEIR FACE.
Oh boy, I'm screwed. I've always been paranoid and nervous around security personnel/police/military people for no apparent reason.
This is stupid.
I can never stand still. I'm always shifting when I stand.
As long as they don't look arab they'll be fine, as I recall airport security people generally being stereotypical.
It's only stereotyped simply cos you don't get english people hijacking planes.
They should hook it up to machine guns, so one mistake means they're dead straight away. Safer
They should hook it up to machine guns, so one mistake means they're dead straight away. Safer
Hell yeah! Don't forget BFG's and lasers! On a more serious note, this idea is pretty damn lame. What if like one of the posters above said a person has a legit fear of flying? Ex. a phobia? What so then phobia = terrorism?
This reminds me of something funny that happened in D.C. metal detectors. I went to the Library of Congress and set the alarm off, I told the guy it was my belt. So he lifted up my shirt and then checked the back of the belt buckle for bombs... Then when I went to the White House it happened again, I told him it was my belt, he's like ok I believe you. I was like wat
What if someone has a legit fear of flying, or is on their way to a stressful event? This is the stupidest idea I've heard of in a while.
Or if they're shitfaced to help them overcome this.
This isn't going to work - there's going to be so many people sent in for unnecessary secondary screening because of this it's not even funny. And if there is a terrorist, chances are they'll be trained enough not to set it off.
9/11 was 8 years ago, three thousand people died. Boo-fucking-hoo.

If they don't want to get terrorist attacks, why don't they just be nice to the middle east, or Nuke the fucking place?
What if i have terrible balance?
If it was made for unfit people to measure how unfit they are then it would only work in a perfect world
I had some orange juice in my hand luggage back from Spain, the armed guards stopped everything, I was so scared they had huge G36C's!
Ughh I'm gonna hate this. I always get stressed out going through security emptying my pockets plus my laptop bag and my carry on bag of all electronics and jels etc. Then I get stopped and panic as I watch my $1500 laptop sitting out in the open helpless and fearful that someone will grab it and stuff it in their bag
I remember when I was like eight, I were in the french disneyland, bought a toy rifle there(Fully made with wood, and the cock thing on the side, not even hitting anything, and half the airport got closed down, and ten fully armed security guards with kevlar, helmets and AR's(Forgot what one they used). Fucking frenchies stole my toy rifle after that.
I'm flying on tuesday, thank god this isn't being put into place for a while, cause it's probably gonna extend the customs line a few hours, you know, them having to check every single person that doesn't have good posture. Who thought of this? "Hey, he's not standing how the Wii fit wants him to, he's a terrorist".
9/11 was 8 years ago, three thousand people died. Boo-fucking-hoo.
Wow you sure are edgy as fuck!! Do you not understand the implications of airport security? Yeah, it's not implemented too well or even ethically in places, but you've got to be fucking kidding me
9/11 was 8 years ago, three thousand people died. Boo-fucking-hoo.
Marijuana is illegal, and it will always be. Boo-fucking-hoo. :smug:
Marijuana is illegal, and it will always be. Boo-fucking-hoo. :smug:
It won't be for long, if things are going like they are now :smug:
Marijuana is illegal, and it will always be. Boo-fucking-hoo. :smug:
Wait until "generation x" gets into power.. OH GOD WHY DID I THINK OF THAT. We're all fucked.
