Hey guys
I have the HP ProBook 4540s laptop. When I turn it on, the computer seems to turn on, but the screen doesn't, and the fan becomes extremely loud before I shut it down again. Happened pretty randomly, seems to be a hardware issue.
Any thoughts?
Yea that was my first thought too. Air duster should do it, ythink?
could be (if you say that it seems to be hardware) video card etc
Find where the fan is and hold your hand infront of it to see if air is moving. And place your hands flat on the keyboard. If no air is moving and the thing is hot, you have a dust problem.
The screen doesnt turn on and its only when he's starting up. I highly doubt it's overheating. try without the battery and without the plug. Remove one ram stick and see if that works. ( if it doesn't switch it around and try again)
Yeah definitely try reseating RAM. Turning on, no display, then getting really loud is a key symptom of misseated RAM, especially in a laptop, Turning off right afterwards is not though.
You have ones where the screen goes on after a small delay, but a delay long enough to overheat. But yeah what you said is something he should try, still wouldn't hurt to clean it and see if the heat is a problem.
CPU's don't overheat anywhere near that quick from dust, even in laptops.
