Country of Potatoes: United States Budget: 1600-1700. Purchase Date: 2-3 Weeks Uses: Gaming! Resolution: 1024x1280 (19 inch screen, good enough for me) I think this set-up may be overkill for the resolution, but I may get a 20' monitor in the future NOT AN OVERCLOCKING MACHINE NOT AN SLI MACHINE Things I don't need: Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Optical Drive Below is what I've chosen myself. Please criticize, make suggestions, etc. I think its fairly good setup, but I don't want to be out dollars on a crap machine. _______________________________________________________________________ Case: Coolermaster HAF 932b ($140) Reviews and magazines ive read praise this tower. Looks roomy, sleek, and the price is very attractive. Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB ($85) No frills here.. GPU: Gigabyte GTX 470 $350 Popular opinion here seems to support the GTX 470. I really prefer NVIDIA, and I do like the awkward but emerging PhysX on it. One question: Will this do anything to my energy bill? Memory: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB 1600MHz $230 Apparently it goes well with Intel Core i7 processors. Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 ($240) Seems to be the holy grail of motherboards. Reviews are hot all over the place, and many websites suggest it. OS: Windows 7 64-Bit ($100) Processor: Intel Core i7 930 ($290) People suggest going i5 instead, but why? Seems like the best proc I can get for the budget. Power Supply:SILVERSTONE ST85F-P 850W ATX 12V v2.3 ($150) Wishy washy on Power supplies. I know quality varies greatly, so please tell me if this is a good buy or not... TOTAL PRICE: Approx $1585 WITHOUT TAX/SHIPPING
We are more the land of corn than potatoes. We produce so much corn its very heavily subsidized. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12582665 A bigger monitor would serve you well.
I really can't recommend the GTX 470. Yes its powerful but 5870 still kicks its ass even after the driver upgrade and for me it was way too loud (tested 5850-5870-470 and the 470 was easily the loudest). The temps arent really much of problem since the card can handle them but it will heat your case and room by quite a bit. For that budget I'd go for the 5850 and i920 instead of 930 since its basically the same processor. And get this HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&cm_re=spinpoint-_-22-152-185-_-Product Other than that your build seemed kinda good. EDIT: Fhamster's build is great but i would recommend getting Triple Channel 6Gb.
1156 uses dualchannel
Can you please explain why you chose some of the parts you did? Ive been out of the market for pretty long, and any detail helps... Thanks for the help so far guys..
Are you sure you don't have that res mixed up? I've never heard of 1024x1280.
i5 750 is a pretty cool guy eh proccesses gud and doesn't afraid of anything. p55 ud4p is a good 1156 MOBO that splits the pcie bandwidth into 8x/8x for multi GPU. G.SKILL ripjaws because it is 1.5v nehalm has memory controller on the CPU and it isn't recommend to have RAM running past 1.65v. 5850 crossfire beats all single gpus. My 19'' monitor has a native res of 1280×1024. FHamster, why would I get a i5 750 and a P55 Mobo? Isnt X58 a bit more futureproof? I appreciate the suggestions FH but I want to be sold on them.

When intel releases the next generation of processors it will be on a new socket.
