The world’s first 3D-printed gun, the Liberator, has been printed, assembled, successfully test-fired — and now the 3D CAD files are available to download, if you wish to create your own gun.
It looks like an uncolored stapler
Does it make the cool music when you shoot it?
It liberates bits of your organs from your body.
ban 3D printers immediately we're all going to die holy shit
No seriously though, this is really fucking cool :v:
I am going to download an AK-47
fear me

You wouldn't download a gun
Can I download a car yet?
Wouldn't that be Liberator II? A single-shot disposable handgun called Liberator already exists; clearly the inspiration for this thing; not in form but in function.

I don't know why some people are so worked up over 3D printing guns, it's probably always going to be cheaper and easier to just make zip guns.
Why do people make such a big deal out of this?
fully plastic gun
Why do people make such a big deal out of this?
It IS a big deal.. lol.

Most people don't realize that you can head down to Home Depot and legally make a shotgun with some piping and a nail.
It IS a big deal.. lol.
You can build guns in your garage that are cheaper and have less of a chance to explode in your hands when you shoot them.
It IS a big deal.. lol.
Uh, no? Rubber band, nail, drainpipe = shotgun.
You still need ammo though, I'm no expert on firearms but I think you need ammo shoot.
Getting ammo is easy, getting a gun, is still easy, but can be a hassle.
I can go into walmart and pick up a box of .22 easy.
Or buy them online.
Or buy from silk road.

Ha, clearly you haven't tried to by ammunition lately.

you can also print stuff in many different metals, including titanium and achieve 95%+ density

Anyone on FP with a 3d printer tried this yet?

The entry for this in my encyclopedia of guns was by far the most fun to read. I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that you had to take the spent cartridge out manually and reload/chamber with a short stick.
fur muh freedums
Anyone on FP with a 3d printer tried this yet?
It's probable that nobody on FP has a 3D printer with the density required unless they've got access to one at a school, which would likely be troublesome trying to print this at.
I do 3D Printing from time to time with different materials and can say that this would be far too expensive to be worth an end result. It's a great proof of concept, but people are freaking out like 3D printers are going to be dime-a-dozen sitting next to inkjets at your local office supply store, and everybody's just going to be printing these off left and right and having a field day shooting it up. hobbyist level printers like makerbot 2 are $2,000 starting and the material is extremely costly. There have been barebones DIY kits at $99 here and there, but they printed thick layers (low density), with the accuracy of Michael J Fox suffering from caffeine withdrawal

ban shovels you can make AK receivers out of bending them into shape and cutting holes in them

oh my god they've actually unironically called it "The Liberator"
there's no saving america now
it's too far gone
Please make a .45 version

that is amazing
i know this is touted as the first gun ever created at your house, but ive seen more than a few improvised weapons at museums, its not actually all that hard to make something that will fire a bullet, a piece of pipe and some sort of cap could do the same job as the plastic its not revolutionary, now lets see them print an pistol that will fire a thousand rounds before breaking, then it'll be crazy
More like The THX gun.

well, sometimes you just need one shot on hand
if you need more, just make more and keep all of them on you

because they said we wouldn't download a car... Now we're getting closer to proving them wrong!
