Hidden Video Shows Romney at a Fundraiser A fascinating hidden camera video shows Mitt Romney talking at a fundraiser about investing in a Chinese factory that he described as surrounded by barbed wire and packed with 12 women per dormitory room. Romney's point in telling the story was that "95% of life is settled if you're born in America." Here's the video:
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/09/15/hidden_video_shows_romney_at_a_fundraiser.html

I'm not even surprised by the shit Romney says anymore.
The nail in the coffin?
wow
I wonder if he'll install nets to keep them from jumping off the building and killing themselves.
Whats the remaining 5%?
I wonder if he'll install nets to keep them from jumping off the building and killing themselves.
You see, the nets are there to keep people from jumping up.
Whats the remaining 5%?
working at mcdonalds
Please excuse my ignorance, but what does that even mean?
I'm confused by the reference of this? How is this damning, or how is this the nail in the coffin?
Please excuse my ignorance, but what does that even mean?
I don't really understand it either, from how it sounds he's pretty much just saying that the US is fortunate as a first world country.
What he said wasn't bad at all... I don't support Romney but this is not really very bad
I think it could be bad, considering it shows that he did indeed outsource jobs to China, and was a integral part in choosing specifically which factories to use, as well as the fact that he wasn't outraged with their conditions.
In a nutshell: AMERICA IS NUMBAH 1 And he's planning on investing into a Chinese Factory, where they work (Quite literally, if I recall) 23 hours a day, and are paid about 0.33 cents an hour. Those may be exaggerations, I forgot if it was 0.33 cents, or 33 cents.

God forbid he put them in so good a situation that they have to have barbed fences to protect the factory from the other people who want to work just the same as the ones already employed. Labor in China isn't going to change soon. Simply refusing to outsource jobs there is thus a bad idea... it makes more and more Chinese workers become jobless and poorer and starving
I don't see how this can be spun against him. He's talking about the opportunity in America. He's clearly just throwing the number 95% around to make a point; we as a society have moved away from the industry model in China. Americans don't have to live at their factories and work 18 hour shifts non-stop. I don't think it's fair to say that life is "easy" for the impoverished in America (quite the contrary actually), but I don't think that's the message here. I don't really see anything wrong with what he's said.
Yeah this is not really that controversial. He is just saying that life in the USA is better than in China.

At least he's saying what is on his mind in this video, and not spewing lines like "How bout them cheesy grits, y'all". Agreed it's not very damning, it does continue to paint a picture of him much like a lot of people already seem to think of him. Which is not really a good image to begin with. And kind of hypocritical considering Republicans seem to want to abolish unions and workers rights which are huge reasons why we have things so well in America to begin with.
He's gloating at how he made his money back in his private equity days, not by doing anything for America but by capitalizing by near slave labor conditions in another country. In an election where the US labor force is hurting so bad, how is this NOT making him look bad?
lol clearly the first few posts in this thread didn't watch the video
romney has said a lot of stupid shit, but this isn't one of them. the worst part about this video is it makes him look like a rich fuck which isn't all that appealing to the middle class I think. Saying 95% of your life is set if you were born in the US isn't that bad.
Dear god, he said life is good in the US? Stop the presses, we need to get Obama's word on this scandal!
Dear god, he said life is good in the US? Stop the presses, we need to get Obama's word on this scandal!
No, he said that we have it good compared to many other countries.
There are so many reasons to not like Romney but this video is not one of them

I mean, I dislike Romney too but this video is not really damning at all
No, he said that we have it good compared to many other countries.
Difference being? You say tomato, I say tomato. Crap, that doesn't work in text...

He sets the context of this story by saying this was during his private equity days. He never once mentioned how he this factory related to him. He was comparing Chinese working conditions with American ones. This has nothing to do with his business.
