I still have no idea what star citizen actually is even after looking at the website and wikipedia.
Mustn't have looked very hard. Its a space dogfighting game segmented into several different modules, one of which is a fps fighting module
Of course he doesn't like it, refunding him removed all legal standing for him to sue -- and that's exactly what he wants to do and to force the devs through a long and painful (and revealing) discovery process; not to mention that this would waste money that's supposed to be spent on development. He's a fully grown man doing the equivalent of shouting hacks because the other guy killed him last round.
“I know who wrote it, I’ve already heard who was behind that post going up, and they’re going to pay, even if it doesn’t come from me,” said Smart when I brought up the forum post. “Everyone’s going to end up with full accountability. They made it personal, it’s not professional. It wasn’t coming from Chris [Roberts], it wasn't coming from PR, it was just coming from this guy, in a forum, with direction from whoever he’s answering to, and I’m not going to name names, but I already know how it went up, and they’re all going to account for it.”
"They embarrassed me and outsmarted me and they'll all PAY FOR THIS, I'LL GET THEM SOMEHOW"
Why is he doing this again... no, seriously getting the FTC involved is going to screw over crowdfunding in the long run... all because it is not the game he funded, (tbh I would get mad but this may end up going too far) but it is too soon to tell.

The best thing to do is to ignore him. He can't sue, all he can do is personal-army other people into being proxy soldiers for his impotent legal threats.
“People who say ‘You’re crowdfunding don’t expect anything,” they are right, in the sense that you shouldn’t expect anything to be delivered. The difference is, if you go to Amazon and you order something and it doesn’t show up, you have recourse. But when you crowdfund, the only recourse that you have are mostly individuals who, without accountability, can just walk away into the sunset scott free with your money.”
A reminder that Dick Sharts has a shitty Planetside 2 clone that looks like it crawled out of 2002 on Steam Early Access, and if you dare to criticise his game in the Steam forums he will ban you without hesitation, which also permabans you from his game. One nasty comment = loss of access. Accountability my ass. :v:

In fact his actions claim he does not feel like he's washed up. Honestly, I can ignore him by ignoring your smart posts.

Can't blame you for not reading any of his shit. And this doesn't seem like ignoring. :v:
along with the promise that he’ll be taking an ad out in the New York Times.
For what? "Don't buy Star Citizen!"? Because that's free advertising for Star Citizen.
This guy is such an attention whore.

I read his first letter through and through, he had point, his actions at it were terrible. He used the gamergate hash tag and admitted to hijacking it. He said he tried contacted them to no avail, so I'll go straight to nuclear weapons. Then after that when this came forward from cloud imperium about making improvements, he attributed his effort mostly to him, there's no proof they did that or not. There is a problem in removing his pledge, it's SC I'm worried about, it's setting president where other truly mismanaged and bad crowd funded projects will do the same when they could well be needed to be investigated. You're letting Derrek Smart tumblr trigger you, it's not healthy. In my opinion this matter is dealt with more of an empathetic approach then a cycle of shit talking. Because from what I read Derrek Smart loves to read posts like yours and troll the shit out of you.
TBH I'm surprised the man has the money for that ad space all his games were kind of flops
I am still not sure where he gets his money from. I mean, even Uwe Boll ran out, and yet, there is still Derek Smart. Derek Smart? Derek Smart!

The fps module is not "delayed indefinitely" (which is industry PR speak for "cancelled"). The devs are not prepared to announce a release date, but that is not the same as an indefinite delay. The reason they won't discuss deadlines is because whenever they set a deadline in public, and then miss it due to ordinary development snags, the forum rips their heads off, so they've stopped giving dates until they know things are locked in and will happen when they say. Managing expectations is important. Every Friday, the devs post a status update on the fps module and the progress made that week and the technical blockers that are holding it back from being ready. The reason they don't just release what they have is that a release consumes an incredible quantity of resources (including ridiculous bandwidth costs since the launcher doesn't do delta updates, but there's a fix coming for the launcher in the imminent 1.1.5 patch), and if there are known major issues that are going to interfere with people's experience, they're going to get a ton of bug reports for things they already know. So, no. The fps module is not in danger. Just ordinary development. And "some time" is measured in weeks, not months, from now.
Toxx that or I can't take you seriously.
Fine. Also, on the off chance that it does get released in less than 2 months I'll also post here saying how wrong I was and apologize.
Being an early backer is almost like investing your money. You're guaranteed nothing
Fine. Also, on the off chance that it does get released in less than 2 months I'll also post here saying how wrong I was and apologize.
Actually, if you're going to Toxx over this, I'm gonna ask you to specify: Is your Toxx bet that I personally will not be playing the fps module inside of two months? Or that it will not be playable by any backers? The reason is because the fps module will probably be rolled out in waves, starting from the earliest backers, and I'm backer #600,000 something, and depending on when it becomes available and how fast the rollout goes when it happens, the fps module could be released inside of 60 days but I wouldn't have access until after then. :v: Also, if the ambiguity is a problem, you can back out and we'll pretend nothing happened.

Fine, I'll back out, only because I love most of you assholes in the forums and don't want to miss out on any future drama.
As long as they're within a six month time frame of their target dates, I'm fine with it. I mean, this first person module is another huge cornerstone of their game, I'd rather have them get it right on release than release something like the flight model which required large amounts of community feedback and tons of additional patching to "get it right".
derek smart complaining about "things not happening fast enough" when his games have been on the same engine since 1996 and are barely distinguishable from one another the shit he's coming out with would've maybe been impressive 20 years ago, if they weren't clunky horrible messes in addition to lagging behind in terms of graphics by the same length of time. this is just some bellend trying to stay relevant.
Star Citizen and Chris Roberts has done nothing to deserve this attention. The game may be getting delays and may change before it's release, but they haven't done anything to deserve this attitude.

He went on to point out on mismanagement based on statements, key people leaving, and something like the german branch running for a month but cloud imperium saying they just opened their doors. Oh and the statement of cronyism of where Chris Robbert's wife is lead marketing and his brother (who lead privateer 2 and worked on some lego games) The not fast enough is additional points he uses to say that cloud is falling apart and they won't fess up. (cloud has within this time has answered all but the german office and the family part). Is he impatiently hot headed person, yes.
Chris Robbert's wife is lead marketing
Chris and Sandi are not married to each other; CR's personal life is kept quiet for his and his family's privacy. It's a commonly-held mistake (including me up until about a week ago so I can't completely fault "Smart"). Last Friday (I think?) the community team had a Nerf fight with Sandi's kids in the office -- they were distinctly described as Sandi Gardiner's kids, with no mention of Chris. Erin Roberts isn't some nobody with zero cred, and Chris chose people he knows and has worked with before and can trust for various high-level positions. Demonstrate that Erin isn't suited to lead Foundry 42 if you're going to accuse CR of cronyist nepotism. Shithead doesn't care to do so and simply throws it out as an ad hominem. CIG has been very public about the fact that CIG Frankfurt has been open since late Spring and has been ramping up. During this ramping, they were not operating at full speed or strength, and as a result there was less to show immediately. However, the April monthly report includes the video introducing Frankfurt, and Frankfurt has contributed to the May and June monthly reports. So, not only is Derek wrong on both when it opened and how CIG is describing it, the info he failed to read is very publicly available. I cannot take him seriously or trust a thing he says. This is why I have a problem with him--he is totally misrepresenting things to suit his narrative. [del]And you're swallowing it whole without questioning his assertions. And you call me the fanboy. How embarrasing.[/del]

It makes them put something that matters behind their words, and if they're willing to go in on ignorance, they suffer the consequences. I've contributed well into three figures to the development fund for the game, so I've put my money where my mouth is. Now, I want to contrast empty, uninformed shit like "the fps module will never come out" with valid criticisms like how the patcher makes you redownload an entire gig-plus file if a single texture changes in a patch. Things are definitely not perfect, but there is a fuckton of misinformation out there, and a majority of the time the gaming blogs perpetuate misinformation. Polygon is particularly bad for this, although they have published ethically fair stories about SC as well--and I mean fair, not licking SC's balls. Also, I've already been in the fps's levels, thanks to Disco Lando accidentally leaking the latest internal build at the time a few months back. Derek Smart says this basically doesn't exist. :v: [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TChOt_iUhIc[/hd] It's worth noting that this is unfinished and wasn't intended for public consumption, and this map is in the wrong gamemode so I'm missing the grapple-beam gun I should have for moving in zero-G. And obviously that wall is supposed to have collision.
