I started weightlifting about 8 months to a year ago and have been trying to maintain a good schedule ever since. However, I've noticed that my abdominal area is not nearly as developed as I'd like it to be, and I don't think just plain crunches ad infinitum will solve it. I'm not talking like washboard abs, I know those come from fat percentages. So, what's a good set of exercises I could do to strengthen this area?
Gurus correct me if I'm wrong, but squats engage your core right? I think deadlifts do as well. The only tricky issue I have is my core. I guess I'll be able to tell once I drop more weight but I would really like to know this myself
Shit where you're using your core to stabilise yourself, like leg raises, hanging leg raises, and yes, the plank.
barbarian will be here soon with a picture of the plank.

they do indeed
Almost everything you do engages your abdominal
deadlifts are probably by far the most underrated abdominal exercise. Go look at any powerlifter who has dieted down to lean bodyfat levels and tell me they don't have developed abs.
Don't bother doing situps or crunches IMO, the range of motion is for shit. Hanging leg raises would be much more preferable.
Yeah I've given up doing crunches, too boring. Leg raises are where it's at.

thank you for doing god's work when I was unable
I just trying to keep my body as stable as possible when i do pushups/chinups. Ill sometimes lift my body up at a 45 degree angle. You'll be sore the next day, but i don't really know how affective this is, as ive only been doing them recently.
