Now that they have that new shitty web design I can't figure out how the hell to disable it. I don't use my 360 anymore so I have no need for gold membership.
To cancel mine I called their support, it didn't take all that long. (Maybe 10-15 minutes on the phone, but I had forgotten all of my xbox live information.)
As stupid as it is, you're forced to call them. It's not possible to disable automatic renewal through the website any more.

Yeah, it is, unless they changed it in the past few weeks. I did it probably mid November.
However, I'm sorry OP, as I don't remember how exactly I did it. I do remember it being a big pain the butt, though.

I called them, the guy was actually [i]really[/i] cool. Turned out he has a MacBook Pro too :buddy: If all their guys are like that guy, then it really won't be any problem if you just call them.
