New Zealands Three Strikes Law was Pushed, Bought and Paid for by the US – Wikileaks
The slow trickle of leaked diplomatic cables from Wikileaks may not be in the headlines as much as it was when it started, but revelations keep pouring out of the website. Recently, new diplomatic cables published on the site revealed just how, not only influential the US was, but just how much control the US had over the passage of the three strikes law in New Zealand.
If there wasn’t any anti-American sentiment before in New Zealand, there certainly will be for some after new diplomatic cables were published revealing the role the US had in pushing for a three strikes law in New Zealand. The New Zealand’s new three strikes law was the most controversial copyright laws in the country and one of the most controverisal in the world. While the law was being proposed, debate was fierce. The law sparked repeated blackout protests where websites would black out their website logo’s in protest of the law since it is widely seen as a censorship law more than a copyright enforcement law. Last month, in spite of major opposition and protests, New Zealand passed the law anyway to the dismay of the New Zealand population. Now, thanks to Wikileaks, we can see just how far back the United States was pushing New Zealand to pass that law in the first place.
That is a collosal amount of money for our tiny economy.
Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet fucked. As a New Zealander, this pisses me off. Greatly. Our country has far too many problems, Financially and Sociologically, to deal with, let alone the US pushing their super serious issues of copyright protection.
Theres much, much, much more to the article on the source page, go have a look.

I'm starting to think the U.S. wants to take over the world.
We need to start minding our own business and fix our own corrupt country.

Absolutely everything this country seems to do now.
Oh America, is there nothing you wouldn't do to appease lobbyists?
I wonder when our government will be overthrown...
Too bad that will never happen.

Too bad most Americans only care about the latest celebrities, movies, tv shows, rather than trying to fix their own government from fucking itself over to the point of no return (if it isn't already) and instead they just bury their head in the sand and act like nothing is happening.
For the Americans that do care, I really do have sympathy. It's really too bad that minorities can't do shit anymore, everything's controlled by the masses and massive corporation dick sucking.
Thread is now Trashing USA
USA needs to be utterly destroyed.
okay now that's a bit excessive... Is that an albino bearded dragon?
USA needs to be utterly destroyed.
Ehh, no. Our government is just so far up it's own ass it doesn't care about anything but money.
Damn, I wish I was born in a different time, but oh well, or atleast in Canada. Canadian's are my bros'.

Don't bother, you're talking to the guy who wanted to flee the corruption US to live in Russia or even North Korea "if they would take him"

That's funny, neither of those are any better.
What the fuck is going on now.
Before USA were all "Hey censorship is bad" , like how the US did not approve of the mandatory internet filter for Australia and is now deciding "hey lets help out the Italians who might be getting a filter" or in this case are wanting the pathetic Three Strike policy in NZ.
i like how we are talking about the entire USA as one whole entity
just as a personal note, when you are wishing death upon the USA, could you do me a favour and make sure you just add a small ", except thisispain" at the end?

That shit passed? I don't want to live in this country any more....
I vote we just kill off all lobbyists they've never done anything helpful.

Not really surprising, all governments use some form of coercion, be it military, political or economic. IT's not only the US. Didn't Wikileaks leak a file that showed that the US and Europe pretty much pay eachother titanic amounts of money quite often for behind the scenes for things no-one was supposed to know about?

And China and Iran and every single other power. There's a bizarre tendancy on FP to single out the US and the West as the source of all corruption, despite the fact it happens world over.

When us and Russia were left as the last standing superpowers after WWII we took on the role as a world leader. And since Russia just likes to keep to themselves America acts.
America is still the most powerful and influential nation on earth. I think it is wrong for us to, in a way, imperialize (for lack of a better meaning) but I remember when I was studying US History last year that a lot of our presidents thought it was in our best interests and the worlds interests to share our ideas and whatnot with the world if their system of doing things seemed... "lacking"
But don't get me wrong, I think it is absolutely idiotic of our politicians to be pushing this kind of law on other countries just for the sake of protecting our copyrights. If a country has a horrible legal system (worse than ours) then it'd be in every bodies best interest to give them a better system. And that was the idea back in the day when America was leading the world but now we are just pushing other governments around which makes me sick.
I also don't think its going to be any time soon till we just start focusing on only our own problems. America has assets all over the world and during the age of Imperialism with Theodore Roosevelt, Big Stick diplomacy was our way of using Military force throughout the world to PROTECT our interests. That means if we have a sphere of influence in some pacific island nation then we should protect our interests from others who would rather harm it (Spanish-American war and the Philippines Revolution with America) Thats a reason why we have Guam, Annexed Hawaii and used to have the Philippines. (We have more though)
And with Truman (I believe) he wanted to protect our interests by having good relations with other countries. I think what the Government is doing now is a evil spinoff of Trumans policy.
So what I am trying to get at is that America has always had to protect our interests in other countries and now with the age of the internet our economy is largely supported by the media industry and Hollywood. Because everybody can access the internet the only way we can protect our interests is by pushing around governments which is one step too far.
The media industry shouldn't be such a big support beam for our country because it is such a loose field. Its not like you can go pirate 60 tons of iron so you can build a battleship or something. Our country needs to revert back to the way our economy worked much like during WWII, a lot of production of material goods were made and we shipped them to desperate countries. If the rebels in Libya could pay us then we would defiantly be selling our arms to them and that would be a good thing for our economy (But not nearly as comparable as during WWII)
and those are my thoughts and what I learned in US History class.
All national bodies only want their own good in the end, international politics are all about selfishness.
Even when a superpower decides to "help" a country, it is usually because of resources which need to be secured from possibly hostile forces or keeping the country in the hands of the current, possibly favorable rulers instead of letting the country change government to one which isn't willing to bend over.
Edit: I would say inb4 "Why do u europeens hate us so much!?/You're just bashing america." but it already happened, there's always atleast one guy feeling patriotic in the news sections.
This is why no one likes the USA, except the people that live there.

democracy? huh? why, i've never heard of a word like that

Yup. Even more so than in physics, there is no free lunch is international relations.
Other than the lunch of the diplomats themselves, that is..

We can't fix our own corrupt country while we're corrupting everyone elses.
Edit
I don't see why people in this damn country try to fix things instead of complaining.
Oh wait, I know. Government for the major corporations, not for the people. :downs:
