PlayStation 4 early adopters are experiencing a widespread data corruption error resulting in lost progress and unplayable games, according to frequent reports in a 34-page PlayStation Forum thread.
Joystiq reader "Jim" wrote in to report the loss of 30 hours' worth of progress as a result of a glitch that the PS4 console identifies as "Error CE-34878-0." The bug isn't isolated to a specific game, as PlayStation community members report lost progress across several titles in the PlayStation 4's library, including NBA 2K14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, andAssassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. In rare cases, "CE-34878-0" prevents users from starting any PlayStation 4 application, rendering the console unusable.
PlayStation forum members suggest a variety of solutions to the issue, ranging from save file deletion to a full console replacement. We've reached out to Sony for comment and await a response.
rrod v2
seeing as how i have never owned a 360 or ps4, this comment was a shot at a target that i only knew of through rumors and overheard conversations. i thought i was on target, but it seems i wasn't. sorry to have taken this space up with such a bad joke.
That's what usually happens to a console on launch.
Almost a guarantee there will be a different model/slim version following soon.
Best to wait for that for this generation since both starting libraries are mediocre anyway.
"Oops."
I'm pretty sure when I say BF4's problems aren't cause by the PS4. I've had a save corrupt on the second last level on the 360 version, the campaign saving in that game is awful.

They've been having a lot of issues with that game, but it looks like there's two different issues going on. BF4 is deleting it's own saves along with PS4's own issues.

That is hilarious
That is hilarious
The hilarious part was the glitch in the PC version where a suppressed weapon would mute the server!

How do you even make that on accident

Oh fuck, THAT'S the reason my audio dies sometimes after someone shoots a suppressed rifle at me?
Bf4's so broken, but I can't help myself from playing it, it's too much fun to play with friends.

A better question is how this passes any QA whatsoever unless you're literally just not trying

if it's happening to you now I don't know what to tell ya, I that was patched forever ago
5+ million PS4s out in the wild, a few dozen people complain about it.
"PS4 early adopters doomed! Widespread damage, RRoD 2.0"

If this happened on the Xbone people would be pissing all over it. But no, its the PS4, its okay.

Because the PS4 didn't have a horrible image prior to release.
When you don't have either console and one has more mistakes than the other, you start leaning to the other side of the fence.

If I recall correctly, Sony dropped all of their mistakes last minute in a giant FAQ post.
I've had the problem on my console but it usually doesn't persist; and it's only happened on BF4 for me

People with sense do this, I didn't when I got an Xbox 360. I got one of the first gen ones and it hasn't had a single problem to date. I don't understand it
Then again, why am I excited about that. Oh Yay it didn't break. You know what, NES' still work. SNES' still work. My 3DO still works. My Dreamcast still works. PS2, Xbox, they all work. You could use an N64 to break into a house with and it would still work. Because they're supposed to. Now that I think about it, it's like everyone's standards have slipped

To be fair, both the PS2 and Xbox have had common defect problems. Early PS2's had disc drive problems that would cause the read laser to become misaligned. And I know the original Xbox has a age related issue, as its happened to me, where certain traces on the motherboard for the power button become corroded so it will turn on and off randomly (user fixable though). Neither of those are software problems though.
Does sort of prove your point that our standards have been slipping. Before internet capable consoles (and even during in the case of PS2 and Xbox games where patches were rare/nonexistent) you had one chance to not fuck up your game/console. If BF4 were released for Playstation in 1998, it would have tanked being a buggy, glitchy piece of shit and that would be that.
Consoles back then were extremely simplistic. Some didn't even have an OS. Now they have complex chips with billions of transistors and lasers have to be extremely precise, and many moving parts.
Back then there were plenty of games with glitches in them too, but if you wanted it fixed you'd have to buy another copy with the updated game, or in rare cases they'd do a recall of the disk..

Everyone playing the game for one minute is more time spent testing the game than the combined internal hours of testing, due to the sheer number of players.

The same can be said for consoles like the PS4/Xbone. Which is how things like this occur.

Back when Cartridges were still a thing, and before the internet, Games had to be good to go, or they didn't go. Wish we could go back to those times man. Now it's all about Whatever, we can patch it on day 1 with what we've worked on during printing and shipping, and fix the other stuff later.
Grr

You're telling me they didn't at least ONCE in QA have someone fire a silenced weapon?
Or play the maps that had that bug where audio was fucked up just by playing them?

Games are hugely larger in size and more complex than those days.
I expect bugs, because it's just impossible for them not to exist in games today, but I expect more QA or betas to compensate. BF4 had an open beta, and it was more stable than the finished game. I'd know, I was in it.
