• Dutch government collapses over Afghanistan
After marathon talks, Christian Democratic Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende announced that the Labour Party was quitting the government. Mr Balkenende has been considering a Nato request for Dutch forces to stay in Afghanistan beyond 2010. But Labour, the second-largest coalition party, has opposed the move. Just under 2,000 Dutch service personnel have been serving in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan since 2006, with 21 killed. Their deployment has already been extended once. The troops should have returned home in 2008, but they stayed on because no other Nato nation offered replacements. The commitment is now due to end in August 2010. The Dutch parliament voted in October 2009 that it must definitely stop by then, although the government has yet to endorse that vote. The finance minister and leader of the Labour Party, Wouter Bos, demanded an immediate ruling from Mr Balkenende. ... The collapse of the government was announced after a 16-hour cabinet meeting. The prime minister said there was no common ground between the parties. "Where there is no trust, it is difficult to work together. There is no good path to allow this cabinet to go further," he said.
Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8525742.stm Seems a bit weak of them to me.
I call dips on Amsterdam. What the hell did i spell wrong?
The Dutch parliament voted in October 2009 that it must definitely stop by then, although the government has yet to endorse that vote.
I don't understand this statement. If they voted on it, isn't that an endorsement? Keep in mind I am not familiar with Dutch politics or governmental organization.

weed. [editline]06:41AM[/editline] is the ~problem~
One party can't get things done their way so they quit? Won't that make it harder to get things done their way?
So the government collapsed over 2000 army personnel in Afghanistan...what the fuck.
Wouldn't it make The Netherlands easier to target by the people they were trying to get out of Afghanistan....? :bravo:
One party can't get things done their way so they quit? Won't that make it harder to get things done their way?
Wasn't just one party not able to getting stuff done, it was more or less arguments in deep from the party. Its almost like Obama and his party walking out because of internal conflicts of people arguing.Plus, its not like the US where they solve difference or try too then takes forever to get stuff done. Basically from what i know, is the party now is almost completely split and has been for awhile with some "Muslim extremists" or possible supporters ..sad to see this happen from a place i grew up in. If anything i hope the PVV (party for freedom)does somthing.
;20318374']Wouldn't it make The Netherlands easier to target by the people they were trying to get out of Afghanistan....? :bravo:
I don't think attacking the Netherlands would be in their best interest at the moment.
Oh? Wouter Bos is leaving the government? Weird how I live in Holland, yet have to read this news on an English website. derp.
The Christian parties were all dicks anyway so I fully endorse this. The sooner we get a left-winged government the better.
Great. Now that moron Wilders has a chance to get some power. I support right wing Party's but he is just going to far.
Will there be civil unrest? My friend's in Amsterdam at the moment.
Christ, that seems a bit of a weak reason for a government to collapse over. Hope you get a better one than you had Dutch FPers. :h:
Will there be civil unrest? My friend's in Amsterdam at the moment.
No. The government isn't in the capital by the way, it sits in The Hague
Respect. Not many parties would take that step.
There we go again. This is like the fourth time already. :/
Geert wilders as prime ministers and 2 months after that we will have elections again. I'm looking forward to it.
;20318374']Wouldn't it make The Netherlands easier to target by the people they were trying to get out of Afghanistan....? :bravo:
"MR PRESIDENT, THERE'S BEEN A TERRORIST ATTACK BY AL-QAEDA!" "Good god, where?" "They have attacked... THE NETHERLANDS" "We must send recovery aid immediately" "Absolutely sir, the only problem is that no one in The White House can find The Netherlands on a map. We're working on it, but it may have to wait until next year... Wait, there it is! ... No, that's Zimbabwe..."
go geert wilders
;20317948']Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8525742.stm Seems a bit weak of them to me.
Well go figure, if Obama suddenly would step down from being president, America would have to elect a new one. Same is happening to the Netherlands too. I had expected this, over the course of a few weeks Balkenende collapsed into a big crying baby. EDIT: It isn't a collapse either, some re-elections and everything is back to normal. [editline]03:15PM[/editline]
The Christian parties were all dicks anyway so I fully endorse this. The sooner we get a left-winged government the better.
I just hope that SP(Socialist party) don't get alot of power now, all your money would go to lazy Moroccans and their 20 children in a 5x5 foot room.
Maybe the government shouldn't go near Afghanistan, so they won't keep falling over. Jeez.
Will there be civil unrest? My friend's in Amsterdam at the moment.
Government Parliamentary democracy and Constitutional monarchy - Monarch HM Queen Beatrix [del] - Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende (CDA)[/del] One down, one to go.
Government Parliamentary democracy and Constitutional monarchy - Monarch HM Queen Beatrix [s] - Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende (CDA)[/s] One down, one to go.
It's [del][/del]
So they went in to decide if they should stay in Afganistan and came out as a collapsed goverment? Talk about random.
I know what's going to happen, they're going to blame someone, then Wilders is going to come up and say it's the muslim's fault. Then we have World War 2 all over again
So they went in to decide if they should stay in Afganistan and came out as a collapsed goverment? Talk about random.
It's been going downhill for a while now. And this is a pretty big thing to break up over.
