I was stood in the line in Costa Coffee the other day when I heard a staff member mention the possibility of an Angry Birds movie to a colleague, who shrugged him off disbelievingly. I was intrigued and did some investigating. Turns out that there's a pretty real possibility that these guys are going to be on our cinema screens in a few years.

A popular app on the Apple handheld devices, Angry Birds is just another -admittedly addictive - deconstruction game. However, Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel has decided that its players have an "emotional connection" with the birds and the game which will be explorable in a movie. Rovio's even gone all out, aquiring an animation studio in Finland, having decided to make the movie itself, rather than partner up with a studio such as Pixar or Dreamworks.
Can this really be compelling, movie-quality stuff when its based simply on us all flinging a load of obese birds to their deaths in order to demolish buildings and crush pigs? Let's be honest, no matter how hard we wish, I doubt it will be anything like this:

(That video has NOT got anything to do with the real production, it's just a parody)
It's due out in 2014 at the earliest. What do you think?
It's not even funny, it's just silly.
What is this game about? I've heard about it a lot but never bothered checking it out. Also heard that it's overrated.

it's one of those 2D flashgame type of game in which you have to catapult projectiles to demolish castles and enemies.
It would be geared at Children obviously.
But I want to see the Mighty Eagle. Summoning it in the game is just...awesome.
Screen grows dark, eagle shrieks, MASSIVE BLACK WHIRLING BLUR hits the level, auto-killing all Pigs, and destroying everything it touched. Then no music cues, only silence...

It was terrible

Well, the story goes out like this: The birds find out that all their eggs have been stolen by green pigs, who are using the eggs as their breakfast. Now the birds have become... well, angry, and now they want revenge.

You literally just catapult birds at wooden structures with pigs in. The birds make them collapse and you have to crush all the pigs to progress.
This is going to make as much sense as a game about Tetris.
Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't enjoy Angry Birds in the slightest?
Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't enjoy Angry Birds in the slightest?
It gets boring pretty quick. It's no more special than any other deconstruction game Ive played
Angry Birds is very popular at the moment, but that popularity will definitely wear off sooner rather than later.
Heck we even sell Angry Birds plush toys at our work, they're just trying to cash in at the height of it's popularity.
What the flying fuck did I just watch
am i literally the only person on earth that thinks angry birds is not fun and the iphone equivalent of a flash game
Could Angry Birds be any more overrated, or, overadvertised?

Yes.
David Maisel has decided that its players have an "emotional connection" with the birds
What
The fuck
I definitely don't... I play Angry Birds all the time along with other games on my droid, but this is just stupid.
Oh it's being directed by Machale Bay! It must be good!
hurr he said modern warfare lol XD so funi
Oh man that was pretty damn funny to me. I would enjoy that seriously. I fucking love Angry Birds. Such a simple game, but really fun.
I was expecting that faux-trailer to be aimed more at kids though.
I love Angry Birds. But I don't see anything in the game that could make for an interesting movie.

Exactly. If it's gonna match the premise for the game, it's going to end up looking like some cheesy kids thing. That's what confuses me too, what would be the target audience? Most players I know that play it a little more 'seriously' are in their teens/twenties and plus. How is a movie about little fluffy birds getting their eggs back off pigs going to work out
michelle bale
It needs more explosions
No, its just like that Battleship movie(yes, I saw a movie on imdb called Battleship). Whats next, minesweeper?
I hate angry birds and I have no idea why it's so popular. I've seen toys, plushies and carnival stalls based around it. It's god damn ridiculous.
What irritates me is that it's built on a the same template as a million other demolition/deconstruction games. The only thing that makes this different is shiny graphics and a nice rich company to fund it and throw out a marketing campaign for it.
From Michael Bay
Slow mo shot of guy sliding under projectile
This is going to make as much sense as a game about Tetris.
I think you worded that incorrectly.
Angry Birds is a pretty fun game I gotta admit, but I don't think it really deserves all the attention it has.
And I don't see how they're going to make a movie out of this, it would just be way too silly...
The game wasn't even that good. It was fun for a bit but it got old really fast.
