Authorities in Germany are investigating whether they can prosecute a former Nazi camp guard who has been living in the United States for 60 years, they said Monday.Prosecutors are probing the case of Johann Breyer, who admits to having been a guard at the notorious Auschwitz camp, where more than 1 million people, most of them Jews, were killed during World War II. Breyer, 87, says he was only a perimeter guard and did not persecute anyone, according to legal papers related to his battle to keep his U.S. citizenship. "He was a trained, paid, uniformed armed Nazi guard who patrolled the perimeters of two such camps with orders to shoot those who tried to escape," a court ruled in 1994. Breyer won his fight to remain in the United States in 2003, when a court ruled that he was not responsible for having joined a Nazi unit because he was only 17 years old at the time. But German authorities are investigating evidence against him, and expect to have preliminary results in October, said Gert Schaefer, a spokesman for the chief public prosecutor in the Bavarian town of Weiden. Breyer emigrated to the United States in 1952 and claimed citizenship as a displaced person. In the 1990s, the government fought to strip him of his citizenship, arguing that Nazis were not eligible. Breyer did not dispute having been an SS Totenkopf (Death's Head) guard, responsible for guarding Nazi concentration camps, according to the U.S. Court of Appeals of the Third Circuit, which heard one stage of his legal battle in 1994. Therefore, "Breyer assisted in persecution," the court ruled. "The Department of Justice proved in federal court that John (Johann) Breyer participated in Nazi-sponsored acts of persecution while serving as an SS guard at the Buchenwald Concentration Camp and the Auschwitz Death Camp during World War II," DOJ spokeswoman Rebekah Carmichael said Monday in a statement. But, she added, findings about his mother's birth and the date of his SS enlistment made it legally impossible to deport him. His case is similar to that of John Demjanjuk, the Ukrainian-born Ohio man who spent more than two decades fighting charges that he was a Nazi war criminal before he died this year.
http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/24/world/europe/germany-nazi-guard/index.html?hpt=wo_bn6
Fuck off Germany he probably didn't even want to be conscripted into the Nazi army.
Fuck off Germany he probably didn't even want to be conscripted into the Nazi army.
Germany doesn't care. Sure it happened 70 odd years ago, but they don't care.
He's probably about to kick the bucket any time now. leave him be.
So, what, he was pressed into SS service and then conscripted to be a border guard?
That's schwitzical.
I wish these people would seriously get over trying to prosecute ex Nazis Yes, Hitler did bad things, that doesn't mean you should try and imprison a random 87 year old who was forced into a uniform when he was 17
Damn, just let the man enjoy the rest of his life. He's probably seen enough shit as it is.
I am German and for me this is a double edged sword. On one hand I also think they should give it a rest. One the other hand the Jewish community will demand that the government does what it can. And modern Nazis are still a danger, there is some sort of mainstream fascism going on especially in lower classes and it is not politically motivated but rather a reaction to oversaturation with foreigners in poorer areas.
I am all for leaving ex nazis alone who were forced into service, however it appears that the germans uncovered proof that he did some serious shit, otherwise they wouldn't try to restart this thing.
Fuck off Germany he probably didn't even want to be conscripted into the Nazi army.
Auschwitz was guarded exclusively by the SS. The only conscripts inside the SS were an auxiliary unit specifically used to defend concentration camps. Auschwitz however seems to have been an exception and only used conventional SS units coupled with some female SS units. He doesn't deny being part of the SS-TV, which was volunteer only. SS were SS specifically because they agreed with the party ideals. That is why they were used to defend ranking officials inside the Nazi party and to carry out the dirty work of the party. NOW the kicker here is that SS guards inside Auschwitz almost never interacted with the prisoners, aside from shooting escapees, or even interacted with the small number of SS soldiers who actually DID kill the prisoners. They aren't even suggesting he was part of the gas chamber crew, he is listed as a perimeter guard, So not conscripted, willingly joined the Nazis, and guarded one of the worst concentration camps. On the flip side, evidence that old is crap and he likely didn't actually do much anyways. Basically he is old and they can't prove shit. Suck it, German government, let him die in peace.
coupled with some female SS units.
Hot.
Hot.
So THAT'S were the idea of nazi porn originated. And knowing is half the battle.

SS is the force at the directestest disposal of Hitler for the worst shit he came up with, so you don't go there "to be badass XXDDDDD"

This dude lives real close to me, people here are fucking disgusting. They've been demanding him literally put to death for being a former guard. He left a note on his door that just says "We have nothing to say, please leave us alone." But there's reporters hounding his home nonstop and the news is just covered in bullshit and soccer moms saying they don't want a nazi near their kids.
Isn't this from a long while ago or is this a different guy?
Where are the hot blonde nordic women?
here [editline]25th September 2012[/editline] in my head :(
Considering how much shit other countries pull and arrest 80 year olds who helped the nazis (and by help I mean forced into or be killed), so i'm not surprised germany are doing this.
Where are the hot blonde nordic women?
On-top of Germany. [editline]25th September 2012[/editline] Dominatrix
I am all for leaving ex nazis alone who were forced into service, however it appears that the germans uncovered proof that he did some serious shit, otherwise they wouldn't try to restart this thing.
My first thought honestly. Germany isn't a country that does stupid shit just because, or at least does it very rarely. Still, in this case I wouldn't really care about him. What's a potentially racist old fart going to do?

Hey, why was it we prosecuted people again? Isn't it something like "we do it to teach people a lesson so they don't do it again while keeping them away from the general public while they improve themselves"? He's 87, prosecuting him now won't accomplish anything. [editline]25th September 2012[/editline] other than to satisfy a desire for revenge (or "justice" if you want to call it that)
It's actually quite sad, the past getting back at him. Maybe he has changed, and just wants to leave it all behind him. He knows death is near, and just wants to live out his life peacefully.
