I really don't understand the point of the mac mini, why would one need a computer so small and weak?
Apple sucks is why. (User was permabanned for this post ("Idiot" - birkett))
I'm so sick of people trolling this section, you guys need to seriously fuck off.
some people don't need a powerful computer, just one to check email, and browse the web and such. the mac mini accomplishes that.
If your penis is full of glass n ass (User was permabanned for this post ("Alt of permabanned user" - birkett))
I'm so sick of people trolling this section, you guys need to seriously fuck off.
I'm not trolling, I genuinely want to know as there must be a reason, and want better answers than,"LOL HURP DURP MAC R SUCK HUH?"
People that need a small lightweight machine to do simple tasks with ease such as hooking a projector up to it or want to learn how to use Macs with their existing PC hardware.
If your penis is full of glass n ass

Apple sucks is why.
get out. on topic: Mac Minis are for those who want a Mac but have no need for a laptop or a have no need for a "high-end" iMac or the Mac Pro. they're more for the "basic" Mac user.
You get a mac mini, because its a MacBook that has no battery, screen, keyboard, or mouse. Contrary to popular belief, they don't suck. They are amazing for servers, as they can come in a 2HDD configuration, with Mac OSX server installed for really cheap. A lot of server hosting companies allow you to send in a mac mini, and the colocation is really cheap, because it usually consumes less than 33w.
Apart from the GPU, the mac mini isn't really weak
for an integrated GPU the 9400m actually quite powerful, plays Source games fine at high settings, but with some setting set to medium, at 1280x800. that's my experience with Source games on my MacBook with the 9400m.
Cheap =/= Weak
Cheap =/= Weak
although $600 is cheap to apple users, its not, but I did look at the specs again and I do like the specs of the $799.00 model
Cheap =/= Weak
exactly. [editline]08:37PM[/editline]
although $600 is cheap to apple users, its not, but I did look at the specs again and I do like the specs of the $799.00 model
compared to Windows based computers in that price range of course it's going to look weak, but it's also better than others in that price range too. for a Mac it is weakest desktop Apple makes.
It's easy to run headless and it's space-saving; I suppose you could run servers off them.
I have one. It's like a little nippy car. It will get you where you want. I am currently editing with Final Cut and After Effects and it dosent lag too much
Sure you could get a cheap Toshiba for the same price, but the hardware that it does come with is decent. Cheap laptops like Toshiba have ddr @ 600 mhz. The ram in a mac mini I think is ddr3 @ 1066. And they give a hard drive at 7200rpm, but either way the priceless part is that it's a computer that computer illiterate people can use and get to use "the amazing superior mac." Which for the average dumb person is amazing. A computer with no pre installed bloatware that can't get virus' and the initial browser isn't have bad and that wouldn't require you to download any 3rd part applications for it to be decent?! Sure it may not be hard for many of us, but not everyone spends all day on forums learning about computers.
Lots of people use them as servers, apple included, they use them in their stores. It's because they're very reliable, they never seem to break. It's why apple brought out the server version.
Stable as fuck.

Youwill come up with something alot better. The Mac mini isn't a laptop, it's somewhat the same size, but still, it's not a laptop, since you don't get screen battery and such.
as far as I know Mac Minis use laptop CPUs and GPUs. and yes a $600 custom built will always be better than any prebuilt from any company.
Yeah, maybe, but I don't think so... It still doesn't got the battery, whose taking up a lot of space..
Mac Minis don't have a battery since the Desktop computers. and the Mac Minis are using laptop Core 2 Duos according to Wkikpedia.
My desktop is using C2D mobile too, and it's certainly not a laptop...
never said that would make it a laptop.
Nope! But you stated it as evidence that it is a laptop mobo... Atleats as far I understood. Though I think your right about that it's built the same way as a laptop is. Just don't see this fitting in...
I have no clue how Apple made the Mac Mini, must be one tiny ass motherboard.
The mac mini looks cool, actually. And I'm usually one of those "Hurr mac sux" people. :o
I have no clue how Apple made the Mac Mini, must be one tiny ass motherboard.
That is awesome.
Stable as fuck.
What? Why would a mac mini be more stable than anything else? If anything, less stable because there isn't much airflow in there. Just goes to show, Apple really is making these innovations. You can get mac mini's for the a little more than pc desktops, but they perform better (Just because snow leopard outperforms windows 7) and it's tiny. Why haven't any small pc's been made, that are stylish AND good?
holy shit, that is a tiny motherboard. [editline]12:47PM[/editline]
That is awesome. What?
