Ridiculous how you can patent a rectangle, pinching to zoom, etc.
Apple are pathetic.
'We've got nothing better to do then try to sue other companies who are taking over our market share for copyright and patent infringements! Waaaah!' - Apple
"Apple doesn't own beautiful and sexy," Samsung lawyer William Price told the jury during the proceedings. However, the jury in the courtroom - which is located just 15 minutes away from Apple's headquarters in California - thought otherwise, awarding close to the $380m Apple sought. Samsung said it owed just $52m.
I can't help but feel that the jury is biased.
The jury shouldn't even have a say in a case like this, why are they even needed? All they are really judging is how one thing looks like another, and that is extremely subjective and can incredibly biased.
i like how you guys get angry at apple for taking advantage of an easy to abuse system, as if any other company wouldn't take advantage of it as well
i like how you guys get angry at apple for taking advantage of an easy to abuse system, as if any other company wouldn't take advantage of it as well
Apple has been abusing the FUCK out of the current system with thousands of extremely vague patents that you can sue pretty much everyone over, then they target competitors selectively. They're just trying to damage Samsung, plus i think they've bribed the judge and the jury to say that samsung was entirely at fault for everything and Apple did nothing wrong.
The jury must have been completely made up of apple sheep
for goodness sake do something about the patent system! fuck apple right to hell!
Ridiculous how you can patent a rectangle, pinching to zoom, etc.
Well don't sugar-coat it. They copied a bit more than that. I know everyone here hates Apple and hates patents but Samsung blatantly copied Apple here. You can't possibly expect them to get away with shit like this: (This picture is an internal document from Samsung, apparently) And some more hilarious examples: http://static6.businessinsider.com/image/4e1757c8cadcbbea4e1e0000/samsung-copying-iphone-recording-app.jpg http://cdn.mactrast.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/avsamics2.jpg http://media.idownloadblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Samsung-Charger.png http://cdn.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/large/public/field/image/2012/08/ipad_galaxy_s_10-1.jpg http://cdn.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/large/public/field/image/2012/08/ipod_dock_samsung_dock.jpg http://cdn.imore.com/sites/imore.com/files/styles/large/public/field/image/2012/08/siri_s-voice.jpg etc etc. But nah, that looks nothing alike, right? Fuck those Apple sheep to hell! :downs:

Fuck those Apple sheep to hell! :downs:
I love how every time an apple fanboy tries to make it look like android ripped off apple they use the most ridiculously convenient images of the app list rather than the actual home screen
Lol wonderful argument, doesn't change the fact that the icons and layout are a direct ripoff, not to mention the hardware similarities between the phones (which you conveniently ignored). And what, since it's a slightly different location of the menu, all of a sudden it's alright to copy and paste the entire design? And since you don't seem to count so good, I supplied 9 examples that are utterly inexcusable. If the roles were reversed here I doubt any of you would stand for this shit. Also I have owned more Android phones than I have iPhones so there goes your "fanboy" argument. You refusing to see the obvious similarities and making up excuses for Samsung is the only thing fanboyish here, and if it were in reverse and Apple copied Samsung, this thread would be swimming in funny and winner ratings and people saying Apple sucks. So it seems Apple's the bad guy regardless of their position, yet I'm the fanboy? The mere fact that you ignore all of that evidence and call me a fanboy is utterly hilarious, though. Thanks for the laugh.
Apple said in a statement: "For Apple, this case has always been about more than patents and money. It has been about innovation and the hard work that goes into inventing products that people love. "While it's impossible to put a price tag on those values, we are grateful to the jury for showing Samsung that copying has a cost."
That is a painful amount of bullshit

Thanks for the laugh.
Do you honestly expect me to write a 7 page explanation of why almost all of those are ridiculous? I mean all of these have been utterly smashed time and time again but even if they were directly ripped off icon pictures are hardly paramount to the experience. The rest of it is just down to being the simplest way information can be layed out (ie, smartphones are bricks because they're fucking touchscreen based and thus basically HAVE to be that shape). I was just pointing out what was one of the most childish examples of people stretching to try and make them look like a rip off, but either way, yes, if you post a hilarious pro-apple post from both a mac and an iPad people are going to think you're a fanboy no matter how much you shit talk them for saying it :v:
Lol apple sux guise even though Samsung clearly ripped them off I'm staying the fuck out of these threads from now on: FP is too much of a circlejerk around specific things to have a clear-headed, unbiased argument anymore. I get it, Apple's business tactics are shit and their products are priced too high, and patents suck. But if you really think Samsung's innocent here and that they did no copying whatsoever, you're beyond even trying to reason with. But hey don't let a fanboy like me (and Android enthusiast for 4 years) tell you otherwise because clearly I'm just an Apple sheep. Unless you really think Apple slapped iPhone and iOS together in a few months (lol get real). Otherwise, iOS 7 indeed took cues from Android and Windows Phone 7, and downright stole some of the main ideas like the notification centre and quick toggles. I can admit it because it's an obvious fact. Why can't you admit that Samsung's not so innocent of this shit either? But I didn't expect any better since you literally have nothing to go on. I've locked you in a corner because you're damn well aware that Samsung's guilty here. Go ahead and try to sugarcoat it but the pictures don't lie.

Either way touchwiz is shit and it should be dropped in favour of stock android - I just think apple should fuck right off with their patent trolling [editline]21st November 2013[/editline]
I'm done discussing any of this shit with you if the best you can come up with is "u own an apple product so ur a fanboy." Well not entirely harmless, since the damn court itself made Samsung pay almost a billion for this shit. Patents suck but so does copying and pasting design. While lawsuits like this are stupid, copying somebody else's work isn't fair either. I'm not saying Apple is innocent, by the way. They're also pros at taking ideas from others and calling it theirs.

The main screens of ios and android are almost totally different and yet they're suing them like it's a total knockoff
Nobody's stopping Google/Samsung/HTC from filing lawsuits, though. It looks like, given those screenshots Novangel posted, they have more than enough proof to win the case in court considering Apple directly copied it. I'm sure Google also has patents on swipe down for notification centre, so I don't know why they're not pursuing it. Because they have better business morals? Maybe. But in this specific case, the one in the OP, Apple IS the rightful winner because, in this specific case, it turns out that Samsung did steal some ideas. I was posting on behalf of this case and that's it. But I couldn't tell you with a straight face that Apple's in any way innocent either. At the same time, you can't possibly believe that Samsung only stole a few cues. Look at the phone from the chrome bezel to the speaker grill to Touchwiz's app drawer, even down to the damn charger. Samsung clearly had used more than a little "inspiration," and enough to lose them the case. The court wasn't biased either because A) they really can't be and wouldn't get away with it if they were biased and B) just IN CASE any bias was present, they even cut the owed amount in half to allow the court to investigate whether there was indeed bias or not, up until today. So it sounds like they approached it with much skepticism to prevent bias so I wouldn't say the win was illegitimate. Instead maybe it's more fair to say: Apple won this case fair and square, but they're no better than Samsung, especially given the shit they've pulled with iOS 7.

The fact that (google etc) aren't suing apple over the same petty bullshit is proof of that although it would be at least justified in retaliation given how much money was unfairly lost. Whether or not the court was biased it's certainly a ridiculous thing to be allowed to sue for
Well I can't say as fact who's worse. I mean, copying software elements sucks, but copying software and hardware is even worse. Even down to the stores: http://www.jailbreakmodo.com/wp-content/uploads/samsung-store-vs-apple-store.jpg At this point I think we've pretty much understood what the other guy is getting at so let's agree to disagree. It's your opinion that Apple's worse and mine that Samsung's worse. That's about all that needs to be said about it. But this specific lawsuit I think turned out fairly, except probably for way too much money. In other words, Samsung copied Apple, but was it an-almost-billion-dollar mistake? Probably not, frankly.
