I designed some posters that I plan on printing at some stage, maybe even tomorrow. The first colour for The Evil Dead one before I decided to try blue: Which do you prefer? Keep in mind I'd like to get these printed (each is like 600dpi) And are there any changes you think should be made? input is appreciated
Fairly good, not sure at the moment what could be improved. However I will say that I liked the one you made with a hand with a forest in it WAY better. Actually, the more I look at them the more I like it. You should try some different takes on it as well, like if you want to take the time, grab a picture of a chainsaw blade at an artistic angle with blood dripping down from the top into the Evil Dead text.
(i didn't make the one with the hand) also I just redid Ash in the army of darkness one, the original was a photo of a shirt i have and was greatly lacking in detail better?
single colour siluettes never work for real movie posters. But it looks good
never work, or never get used because they're not 'commercial enough' take a look at older Hitchcock posters and say that [editline]12:23AM[/editline] vertigo is a great example [img_thumb]http://www.csulb-etec.org/Images/Posters/V/Poster%20-%20Vertigo_01.jpg[/img_thumb]
3 colours on that one
you know what i mean though
Makes me want to watch the trilogy again. Love the style.
I definately prefer the Army of Darkness one, maybe because there's more going on
you know what i mean though
yeah not really 3 colours gives you so much more to work with than just 2. Add an extra colour.
yeah not really 3 colours gives you so much more to work with than just 2. That type of highlighting would really work well in your posters.
I really like the fact that you took the same color scheme from the original posters for the first one, and the Army of Darkness poster is fantastic. The second one's a bit boring, though. On a semi-related note:
Dude, I fucking love Evil Dead. Although, for your Evil Dead II poster, you put a picture from Army of Darkness. I request you do this one with a red color scheme: [IMG_thumb]http://www.wrongsideoftheart.com/wp-content/gallery/posters-e/evil_dead_2_poster_01.jpg[/IMG_thumb]
Love the style, really arthousey
Looks great Rusty.
I like the blue The Evil Dead one the best. Nice job on all of 'em though Rusty :)
yeah not really 3 colours gives you so much more to work with than just 2. Add an extra colour.
i tried it and it doesn't really work for the style i'm going for - they're almost like silkscreen prints you know and i'm gonna give them a black frame which is kind of the third colour that gives it a little more kablamo but actually looks nice they're not meant to look official - just almost like film art for my wall [editline]02:41PM[/editline] my friend is getting one printed since he doesn't have enough cash for all to get printed so he wants the evil dead 1 cover but in red since it's a standalone one [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1482927/Posters/theevildeadred.png[/img_thumb] btw if anyone wants to get them printed for themselve just holla and i'll give you the 600dpi pdf [editline]03:11PM[/editline]
I really like the fact that you took the same color scheme from the original posters for the first one, and the Army of Darkness poster is fantastic. text changed to fit more of a cover style
I don't really like the Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 ones. They seem way too plain...I know that's kind of the point, but the Army of Darkness one looks much better since it has more going on around the main picture. With the first two, a picture on a plain blue or white background just seems too boring. Plus you used a picture from Army of Darkness on the Evil Dead 2 poster. :P
yeah like i said I know, but it's also used on the official australian and japanese evil dead 2 cover art and it is a nice image so why not it is the first movie he gets his chainsaw hand, it's fitting [editline]03:35PM[/editline] but they're also meant to be simple, i like it when there's not too much going on and the focus is on one main graphic
Make it simple with a background that draws the eye to the center graphic. That Vertigo one does a really good job of that. And while the AoD one doesn't draw the eye to where it needs to, the image of Ash is big enough that it's the first thing you see. Regardless, I like all three of them and would proudly display them. Speaking of Vertigo, this song is about it and it's an awesome song:
I honestly love the idea and theme, I just think it was executed in the wrong way. The central feeling from all the posters lacks in the individualistic concept that is the 3 posters. I think with more planning then creating this could have turned out better for you.
YOu really like Evil Dead

Evil Dead 2 is the most plain of the 3 but it's my favourite - my dad and brother, although their opinion as family is skewed, find that 2 is also their favourite. I really think the fact it's so simple adds something rather than being under constructed.
all are terrible; just terrible but the worst of the worst is the text on the top of the third poster the border just seems off, it could use a "firmer" / bolder looking text to give it a contrast against the background of essentially the same color if it was closer to the center where the spiral was more dense etc it'd look fine because it'd be more readable, but right now it looks iffy. [editline]12:38PM[/editline] you could also move the spiral down so that the text isn't over any swirls and then give it a thicker outline it's a matter of opinion but to me it's not very readable which is imperative for 2/3 color posters; you nailed it on the first two.
im cryin but i stuck to evil dead fonts and that's why that text is the way it is, it's the army of darkness font and it's not readable because they're been resized from 7016x9921 tell me more what you find terrible because i was really quite proud of them just like, the overall style or [editline]02:41AM[/editline] and also because you're the first person to hate them and i've shown it to some pretty snobby-about-their-designs friends so just curioUs

:~)
and the reason I say they're not "GREAT" is because i'm just not too into the 2 color style. I like basic looking posters, but 2 is a bit too simplistic imo they're good
i might try the army of darkness text smaller and more in the centre of the swirl since they will be big prints and the text will be readable much smaller
