• Would this be a decent gaming PC set up?

So I'm looking into getting a new PC (mainly for games and such) and a friend suggested this, but I want a second opinion on it. CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive Hard Drive: Intel 520 Series Cherryville 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk Video Card: Galaxy GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB Video Card Case: Thermaltake VL80001W2Z ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Antec 850W CPX Power Supply
That hard drive does not seem good. Western Digitals are more reliable at that capacity, and 5900 RPM is a joke. It must bench horribly. Otherwise, you picked rather well. Oh, wait. That's an SSD you've also got down there. If you're okay with the secondary disk being somewhat slow, that's probably OK. But a WD would be far more reliable. Thermaltake cases are loud as hell. That's why I buy them, I like my computers to sound like jet engines. But you should be warned.
That's a decent machine for gaming and such, You should look into upgrading the video card if you want to do some high-priority gaming. Also swap that out for a 2TB WD instead, And don't get a green one.
What do you suggest I upgrade the video card to? I would have thought the 580 was powerful enough. [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] Also I seem to be missing an optical drive, can someone point me to the right brand to get?
Seems to be good to me. Is the power supply modular? Just wondering. If it isn't, you may want to get a modular one instead.
Get a gtx 670 or 680 if you have $100 to spare, western digial caviar black, and I'd probably invest in a better case. I like lian li and silverstone, one of the best cases, imo. And for reassurance with that mobo, I have the microatx version and it works great. I updated it according to suggestions. Why'd you get a z68? z77 is like the same price has native usb 3.0 and pcie 3.0 (like you need it anyway) and support for ivy bridge if you ever upgraded.

Very similar to mine, I just have a 3570k. Runs a little hotter but uses less power than a 2500k.
Alright, I'll go with that then. Just have to check if stores in my country are selling those parts. :v: [editline]22nd June 2012[/editline] Does switching 1600 MHz Ram for the same amount of 1333 MHz ram make any significant difference?
Sort of.
