• UK “Pornwall” could censor gaming related websites
David Cameron has cited TalkTalk’s HomeSafe security system as a positive example of the kind of filtration he wants all ISPs to implement by default. If you take a look at a screenshot of the HomeSafe settings page, you’ll see clearly that the fifth category is ‘Games’. With this box ticked, TalkTalk will prevent any gaming related content. That’s bad news for anyone who wants to read/watch any videogames content, and bad news for anyone running a videogames-focussed website. TalkTalk’s HomeSafe system is provided by Huawei, a Chinese telecommunications company. If/when Cameron’s proposals become law, many ISPs may elect to use Huawei’s system rather than produce their own. With games already an option on Huawei’s system, if every ISP were to use it, the by next year we could have a country that by default cannot view gaming websites. The potential effects of default-on filters is massive. As Open Rights Group explains: “The implication is that filtering is good, or at least harmless, for anyone, whether adult or child. Of course, this is not true; there's not just the question of false positives for web users, but the effect on a network economy of excluding a proportion of a legitimate website's audience.” If advertised-funded gaming websites were suddenly denied an audience by filters, they could wither and die. But think of the children!
Well shit.
RIP facepunch
SAVE US HOUSE OF LORDS
-snip- Forgot you can turn off the filter.
I'm guessing the UKIP is looking more appealing for people
It was clear from the beginning that such a thing would be the entry point to enable much more things and categories to filter. But once this comes into effect. Those people who are affected by such censorship (cause of parents enabling those filters) will soon learn on how to easily bypass it. I don't know how they will filter it, but depending on the method this can be bypassed easily. - A Free or Premium VPN - A Some Free Proxy - TOR - Change to Google DNS or OpenDNS (If they use DNS to block access to sites) - Or use HTTPS Everywhere (Some filters can't filter HTTPS traffic)
If I wanted porn filtered I could close my eyes...
Censoring the internet is pretty fucking stupid and a waste of taxpayers money anyway
the porn filter thing was shite from the jump, how is automatically checking the 'yes' box going to fix anything other than slightly breaking the broadband customers sense of morality when they click 'no' how is this going to 'protect children' in any way
If I wanted porn filtered I could close my eyes...
But porn is filthy and disgusting you shouldn't be allowed to look at it. - David Cameron Edit: But think of the Children!
I genuinely cannot see any advantage this proposal would have. It'd lessen the UK's prestige and status abroad due to the restricted freedom of expression and information, it'd hamper the economy of both the UK itself and other nations because of a sizable market potentially being lost (especially for non-mainstream businesses) and above all it paves the way to more censorship.
But porn is filthy and disgusting you shouldn't be allowed to look at it. - David Cameron
Except on Page 3.
Except on Page 3.
That's the best part in my opinion, they're trying to so hard to set up a shitty filtering system to stop the kids from seeing porn, when they can literally just go and buy The Sun or The Daily Mail and get page 3 tits.
Ban newspapers. Do it for the Children.

I bet you a week or so after it's introduced there'll be so much uproar that it'll quickly be put out of commission.
I bet there'll be a bypass within the week.
I hope that Cameron realizes that if this goes tits up all the people that will hate it (which will probably end up being the majority) will have less of a reason to vote for him when it comes time to do so.
Evac FP to Canada. Save yourselves
Or better yet, we stop babying children and prepare them for the big world instead of shielding them from it Censorship is so retarded it physically hurts
“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.” Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler, Page 403.
I bet there'll be a bypass within the week.
If this passes there'll be a bypass on day one, read the article
If this gets through the house of lords, I hope to god this is the first act in years that doesn't get royal assent.
Look at the bright side Less kids begging for Rust keys in the forum
I'd be surprised if this made it through the House Of Lords, they seem to be pretty on the ball lately when it comes to saving us from the House Of Commons.
Evac FP to Canada. Save yourselves
Actually, I've wanted to move to Canada anyway. :v:
