SRD thread (until a proper source arrives): http://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/203nhe/rleagueoflegends_is_defaced_by_the_nigerian/ Decency (one of the /r/dota2 moderators):
Happened to /r/Dota2 as well. The changelog says the change was made by one of our moderators, who is online and confirms that he did no such thing. We'll continue investigating, but it's probably going to have to be escalated to the admins.
[del]ALL SUBREDDITS, WHETHER OR NOT THEY HAVE AUTOMODERATOR ON THEIR MODLIST, SHOULD NOW BE ACTIVELY MONITORING THEIR SUBREDDIT FOR CSS CHANGES![/del]
The hell is going on? First JohnnyMo1, now this
Facebook is exploding with images of "HACKED BY *insert group name here*" example of one: [t]http://i.imgur.com/Pop2Ray.png[/t] e: Ninjad e2: seems like the other ones I saw were fakes
The hell is going on? First JohnnyMo1, now this
There is currently no reason to believe that these two incidents are connected
Looks like it's been resolved already.
Looks like it's been resolved already.
There is no reason to assume that it's resolved until one of the site's admins comments on the issue.
There is currently no reason to believe that these two incidents are connected
No no no. You see, JohnnyMo1 was banned to cover his secret operation, to go back in time, to kill Osama bin Laden, but he had to make a special timed virus to hack Reddit, and then sacrifice himself for 9/11 to keep the time stream in check.
wait why should we care about reddit?
No no no.
wait why should we care about reddit?
Where else will we get our surplus memes from An internet without tipping fedoras is an internet without purpose
Where else will we get our surplus memes from An internet without tipping fedoras is an internet without purpose
But don't you see, fedora tipping is everywhere. m'lady
wait why should we care about reddit?
Because its one of the most visited sites on the net?
I guess he really is living the Lovecraftian dream.
More like a sorta generic time travel story.
Hm... Good thing I use a random username and password for Reddit. Thank you, Lastpass! I'd wager it's probably not a good idea to actually go to Reddit until this is resolved. Pretty sure you can do some nasty stuff with CSS table access.
wait why should we care about reddit?
Pictures of cats. No other reason.
I wonder what form of account protection they have, password encryption and such. Not like its something I really know. I rarely use my Reddit account, and the password I used for it is limited to a few sites, none of which are that important. (Yeah, that small game's forum I signed up for to get support and then never visited again, so vital.)
wait why should we care about reddit?
because despite FP's incessant hateboner over it, it's used by many people and it would be very bad if a huge network like reddit could be so easily compromised.
I think the Reddit admins should just do nothing here and let the votes decide...

If I recall correctly, they use 256-bit AES encryption, hashed and salted, with user data stored separately from the login servers. If anyone did get access to account data, I'm not sure any of it would be useful.
I think the Reddit admins should just do nothing here and let the votes decide...
is there some specific reason why you seem to clump all of reddit together and refer to it as one of the dumber subreddits like adviceanimals or whatever like seriously there's this huge anti-reddit stigma on facepunch and every time someone asks about it the only fallback is either "uh, MEMES!!" or "LE REDDIT!!" sure there are some dumb, really dumb, and pointlessly dumb subreddits on reddit. but that's just the small minority. i really don't understand this pointless bandwagon. it's like saying all of facepunch is exactly like the rust subforums or fast threads. care to explain?
Why don't we leave all the drama aside and focus on gathering and/or giving information? If you have a hateboner or not really doesn't help the people that actually use the website and want to be informed if there's any danger or not.
They are selling the 0day exploit for 1 btc(600 dollars) People who buy this type of stuff will not buy it for that kind of extreme price
They are selling the 0day exploit for 1 btc(600 dollars) People who buy this type of stuff will not buy it for that kind of extreme price
You'd be surprised.

Heavy handed moderation doesn't go over well because a lot of people (a lot of people) think that voting removes all the terrible posts when really it just pushes a lot of it to the top because it's "easy to digest". I go to reddit for content, I go to Facepunch and other proper forums for discussion.

I subscribe to a lot of smaller ones, like /r/mid_century, and you can actually carry on a decent conversation there because the posts aren't being spammed with lolmemes and that sort of crap. So... I guess the best subreddits for discussion are those where the votes don't really apply, or matter.

If you hate certain topics or political opinions you have the ability to block subreddits and threads relating to them, and some subreddits expressly bar the opinions of the vocal minority; wherein essentially you either take part in the circlejerk or get banned. How exactly a website in which you have no stimulation other than talking about only the things you like or the things you agree with, offering almost no clause for separate opinions most of the time could be viewed as anything other than despicable and a quagmire is beyond me. What I'm trying to say is on reddit, you don't have to be confronted with differing views, this can lead to a very close-minded and one-sided way of viewing things and that's hella bad.

I watched r/dota2 go from 2000someodd to it's 135,881 subscribers and it was like watching a downhill train wreck.

Pretty sure self-filtered information's a staple on most message boards, not just Reddit. I know I don't go to the Rust subforums, for instance, because they're garbage. I don't think the system's equipped to deal with that much content or input, so it just crumbles.

I think people have some pretty varying opinions on here, the obvious ones being guns, drugs and sex(uality). You've been here long enough so I'm sure you know some of the stink any of those three topics can cause here. It's not all fun and games.
