I have two guitars, electric and acoustic. Both of them are right handed guitars. I am a lefty.
I have them both restrung as lefties, but they don't sound all that great. I've only played for a few years, so that is also one of the reasons they sound terrible.
Any tips on improving sound quality from them sort of buying a lefty?
For the electric ones, maybe you could do it if you just run the signal through your favorite filters and tinker around a little
If you have them RESTRUNG as lefties, rather than them being built as lefties, you're not gonna get all that great of a tone. This is expecially the case for acoustic guitars with fixed bridges. Look closely and you'll see that the bridge is slightly placed on an angle, so that the low E-string is a bit longer than the high e-string. It's supposed to be like that, or otherwise the frets would have to be at an angle (even if straight frets aren't all that perfect to begin with: http://www.truetemperament.com/site/index.php)
On electric guitars you can often change the scale length by turning some screws on the bridge, but even then the bridge itself is usually at an angle (at least when it comes to arch tops like the Les Paul).
Ofcourse you CAN play as a lefty on a guitar built for righties (cough Hendrix caugh).
As well as getting the bridge set up properly it would also be worth your while investing in a new nut that is cut for left handed string gauges. If you are using the nut it came with you would have the lightest string in the widest slot and that isn't really good.
