The HIV gene medicines company Calimmune announced today that the first patient has begun treatment in a Phase I/II clinical trial designed to determine whether a pioneering genetic medicine approach can help to protect individuals infected with HIV from the effects of the virus. The study, “Safety Study of a Dual Anti-HIV Gene Transfer Construct to Treat HIV-1 Infection,” utilizes a gene medicine called Cal-1, developed in the lab of Nobel Laureate Dr. David Baltimore and by Calimmune. Data from this study are expected in 2015.
I just wanted to highlight a "wonder treatment" that's already passed through animal trials and has proceeded to human trials. This trial will take two years to complete, and the treatment itself should probably be publicly available around 2017. These drugs and treatments don't just disappear, they just take forever to get through the necessary tests and trials. This is very good news, it's amazing to look at how many diseases we've cured in the last 100 years
everytime there's a "cure" for HIV, remember that it can take decades before it's approved
everytime there's a "cure" for HIV, remember that it can take decades before it's approved
Did you not read any part of the OP at all?
huh... so maybe cures don't just disappear...
This is fantastic news! Coupled with the fact that there's a cancer treatment/cure entering human trials soon, the future is looking awesome.
huh... so maybe cures don't just disappear...
It can take decades for something to reach this stage of testing, cures don't just disappear, most of the time what you hear is when its first discovered that it could work, at the very beginning. I wouldn't doubt if this was first found a few years after the HIV epidemic started way back in the 70s or whenever it was.
oh boy only a few more years until i can get stationed at shadow moses island
