Calling it now, this game will need some crossover content with other Steam games because by the time Ys 8 releases on PC, the game will already be played to death on consoles.

Crossover content seems to be the most efficient means of providing said incentive.
Falcom really fucked the pooch when they gave NIS America the reins instead of XSEED. Hope they don't make the same mistake going forward with the remaining Trails of Cold Steel games.
It's really kinda impressive just how badly NISA have fumbled with this game. Hopefully Falcom have learned their lesson and don't continue using NISA in the future. I'd really hate to have to pass on future Ys games. Only reason I haven't refunded Lacrimosa of Dana already is simply because a friend bought me it for my birthday.
Oh, believe me, the NISAxFalcom train will keep going on so long as they produce bigger royalty checks for Falcom than XSEED. To quote a post of mine elsewhere: I think a lot of us are going to have a reckoning that Kondo isn't "One of the cool ones" who "Understood the west and the demand for JRPGs on PC" - He's just another overconservative Japanese businessman who got lucky with a business partner THAT DID and put in their 110%, and now that he sees more money in NISA he's leaving XSEED in the dust without hesitation with reckless disregard for any damage it will cause to Falcom's brand outside of Japan. It's funny in the past year alone how my views on Sega and Capcom have basically inverted in proportion to my views on Falcom. While Sega and Capc(p)om are putting in everything to rebuild their brand in the west with things like Valkyria Chronicles fucking 4 and Monster Hunter World, Falcom is rapidly pillaging what goodwill they built up for that sweet NISA money.
Oh, believe me, the NISAxFalcom train will keep going on so long as they produce bigger royalty checks for Falcon than XSEED.
That's kinda the problem here for NISA though. The sheer amount of backlash they've gotten plus all the refunds have been an enormous negative for them. If the people making business decisions at Falcom aren't totally retarded they're going to realize that continuing with NISA could very easily mean a worse payout for them. I'm not saying it isn't possible to be clear. I'm just not completely certain that that's what we'll see happen here. I'd be disappointed but not exactly surprised if it actually does.
Well at least we know steam reviews work, they don't want to release a broken game. Wonder how much NISA's cost Falcom with having to re-do the localization and now hire another developer to fix the port

NISA getting Ys VIII was Nippon Ichi Software's direct handiwork from what I've heard. Falcom and NIS have had a long-standing direct business relationship in Japan, and this latest deal of NIS porting Ys VIII to Switch in exchange for NISA getting exclusive western publishing rights to Ys VIII is just an already strong business relationship going forward. If NISA becomes problematic for Falcom, NIS leadership will put them back in line before it becomes an issue for their dealings with Falcom. But at the end of the day Kondo and Falcom leadership don't give a shit about localization quality so long as people will still buy the stuff. I want to say "Vote with your wallets" if NISA keeps getting Falcom games, but by the time NISA drops Falcom localizations Falcom's bridges with XSEED will probably be incinerated - And it'll be another decade before some sucker comes along to make Falcom games popular in the west again before they inevitably get Atlus'd™ by another bigger publisher - Repeat Cycle.
