As black smoke filled the property, his neighbour's cat Hugo came through a cat-flap and raised the alarm by clawing at the father-of-two's face. Rescuers said that the fire could have killed Mr Williams if he had not been awoken by Hugo. A smoke detector had been moved during work on the bungalow. The fire, which broke out at the family home in Birch Hill at about 0200 BST on 1 August, was caused by an electrical fault. Mr Williams had removed a smoke detector from his ceiling while decorating and moved it to a different place. It only activated after he had been woken up. He said he then went into "autopilot", calling the fire service and trying to put out the blaze himself. Mr Williams, whose wife Sarah was visiting her sister at the time, was treated at the scene after breathing in smoke. Hugo and his brother Harvey are regular visitors to the cat lover's home. Mr Williams said: "I was woken up with Hugo sitting on top of me clawing at my face. He was trying to wake me up. "The fire chief said that I had better buy the cat a big piece of fish because he saved my life. "I'm just so thankful to that little fella." A spokesman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue said: "We are delighted that this very fire-aware cat was able to alert the family on this occasion. "This just highlights the importance of having working smoke detectors inside your home."
The cat doesn't even live at that house. Cats are credit to humanity, they saved us from the diseases transmitted by rats, now they save us from fires. Soon, they will be able to soak radiation.

Expecting one of those spam threads.
The cat should be all :smug: Fantastic news though... I'm sure my cats would have just walked out of the cat flap...
Beautiful story, and which finishes well in more. ^^
I was getting tired of all of the stories about cats being killed, burnt, or shot. So I decided to post this.
And that ladies and gentlemen is why cats ARE better than dogs!
by clawing at the father-of-two's face.
Wait, what?
Cats are credit to humanity, they saved us from the diseases transmitted by rats, now they save us from fires. Soon, they will be able to soak radiation.
[sp]Cats are the tenth class.[/sp]
Wait, what?
What? The cat clawed the guy who is a father of two children.
smart cat it should be promoted to dog status.
Hurf durf, you made a funny.
Hurf durf, you made a funny.
huh
And that ladies and gentlemen is why cats ARE better than dogs!
No, they are both equal. And they are both animals that we humans have enslaved for sexual reasons. And they both have ups and downs. Sorry, did I say humans? I ment Furries.
And that ladies and gentlemen is why cats ARE better than dogs!
Damn straight!
This is the only instance of a cat saving someone. Dogs have been used throughout history to help find criminals, locate missing people, rescue people stuck in avalanches, as guard dogs, etc. Therefore dogs>cats
Lankist, where are you?
This is the only instance of a cat saving someone. (and they eat too much) [editline]02:10PM[/editline]
Lankist, where are you?
That's not how you perform the ritual.
I foresee a huge cat vs. dog shitfight.
That will last over 10 pages . . . . or get locked by 5 pages.
This is why we need more cats. Dogs use my lawn as the toilet. Cats do it in a litterbox. Cats > Dogs
This is why we need more cats. Dogs use my lawn as the toilet. Cats do it in a litterbox. Cats > Dogs
Recycling is good for the environment, dogs are just being green. Horses are still the best, you can ride them.
Recycling is good for the environment, dogs are just being green. Horses are still the best, you can ride them.
I bet you meant that in both ways, HQRSE.
No I meant that 1 way, on their back, with a saddle.
No I meant that 1 way, on their back, with a saddle.
Lies and Slander.

Dogs start whimpering as soon as they hear thunder.
