Daniel Jones, founder of the religion inspired by the Star Wars films, says he was humiliated and victimised for his beliefs following the incident at a Tesco store in Bangor. The 23-year-old, who founded the International Church of Jediism, which has 500,000 followers worldwide, was told the hood flouted store rules. But the grocery empire struck back, claiming that the three best known Jedi Knights in the Star Wars movies – Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker – all appeared in public without their hoods. Jones, from Holyhead, who is known by the Jedi name Morda Hehol, said his religion dictated that he should wear the hood in public places and is considering legal action against the chain. "It states in our Jedi doctrination that I can wear headwear. It just covers the back of my head," he said. "You have a choice of wearing headwear in your home or at work but you have to wear a cover for your head when you are in public." He said he'd gone to the store to buy something to eat during his lunch break when staff approached him and ordered him to the checkout where they explained he would have to remove the offending hood or leave the store. "They said: 'Take it off', and I said: 'No, its part of my religion. It's part of my religious right.' I gave them a Jedi church business card. "They weren't listening to me and were rude. They had three people around me. It was intimidating." Jones, who has made an official complaint to Tesco, is considering a boycott of the store and is seeking legal advice. Tesco said: "He hasn't been banned. Jedis are very welcome to shop in our stores although we would ask them to remove their hoods. "Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Luke Skywalker all appeared hoodless without ever going over to the Dark Side and we are only aware of the Emperor as one who never removed his hood. "If Jedi walk around our stores with their hoods on, they'll miss lots of special offers."
May the force be with Asda now!
I never knew there was an International Church of Jediism. Anywhere.
I don't know why, but reading this thread made me want to punch something.
sign me up, maybe if Jesus had a lightsaber I would have gone to church more
*splutter* Oh god, I think I hurfed a durf.
These are not the hoods you are looking for.
It's no worse than any other religion complaining about "discrimination". The idea that there are people in a distant galaxy who are watching us and fighting the evil sith seems just as likely as any god.
"If Jedi walk around our stores with their hoods on, they'll miss lots of special offers." lmaooooooooooo
In the name of the father, and of the son and the little green guy, amen. On Topic: I think he should just shop elsewhere, or attack Tesco's everywhere with those toy lightsabers.
Bloody Tesco and their anti-alternate religion ways! Why just last Saturday I tried to celebrate Yummy Kippers day and they threw me out!
I really don't see a problem with the hoods. They don't ask muslims that wear those head coverings to remove those, so why can't a jedi wear a hood?
It's so chavs don't come in with there hoods up and steal shit, if there hood is up it'll make them harder to identifiy on security camaras and stuff. Jedi should be allowed to wear hoods thou, after all the service they've done for our universe.

brb joining jedi religion
This guy is a fucking fool for crying just beacuse he got told to take down his hood because it's against his "religion"
This guy is a fucking fool for crying just beacuse he got told to take down his hood because it's against his "religion"
Sorry, some of like to exercise our rights, in this case freedom of religion.
This guy is a fucking fool for crying just beacuse he got told to take down his hood because it's against his "religion"
He should have just struck them down on the spot with his lightsaber.
He should have just struck them down on the spot with his lightsaber.
oh lol, I could just imagine some loon smacking his plastic sword off somebody
oh lol, I could just imagine some loon smacking his plastic sword off somebody
Especially if it was a chav since no doubt he'd get his face smashed in.
Sith happens
He is going to end up going to the dark side because of this..just watch.
He is going to end up going to the dark side because of this..just watch.
Tesco is his father.
Religion is the scourge of this world.
Jedi sure sounds better than Christianity.
Religion is the scourge of this world.
People who say shit like that are also the scourge of this world.
I am a Jedi myself and allow me to say this. This man is not representative of the Jedi community, and we are not the ficticious Jedi portrayed in the Star Wars Saga, we are the religion that inspired George Lucas. My master explains that this man is indeed not representative of our Religion, and that we must stand together to show what we stand for. A master of another order emailed this to the man in question:
Greetings In the Jedi Realist community I go by Xan Qenadius and I've been a Jedi realist for over 23 years. I'm currently a Master of Comparative Studies and council member at a order called Force Scholars. I also have been part of the online Jedi community for a number of years now. If you need to double check this go to http://www.forceacademy.co.uk or http:// www.templeofthejediforce.org or http://forcescholars.vndv.com. Now that that is out of the way I'm absolutely baffled how you gentlemen continue to totally misrepresent what Jedi realism is about. I've heard stories surrounding you gentlemen for a while now and every time I as well as others in the Jedi realist community here your church in the news we usually know it's a bad thing. The Darth Vader thing is one issue but now this uproar with Tesco's. Now then I fail to recall anywhere in the community where it's stated the Jedi must wear robes in public and to cover their heads. I've been around a long time and so have a lot of others and yet I've seen no mention of this "rule" till now. Odd isn't that? Well it's odd cause it is completely unrealistic. I'm not bashing you for wearing robes, a lot in the community do so. I am getting my own robes for my wedding in 2011 and I can't wait (red cloak and black tabbards over a white tunic will be sharp :-) ). However if Jedi were required to do so that would hamper those Jedi that have served and are currently serving in the military or serve in the medical field. The point is that it's not required to wear robes in public like Mr. Jones claims that it is. The fact is Jedi robes are ceremonial garments at the most and again it is not required to actually have robes either, nor a lightsaber. The fact that Tesco saw Mr.Jones refusal to remove his hood when asked as a reason to ask Mr.Jones to leave the store is not surprising. There is a fundamental difference between the hijab (which in your "press release" you misspelled) and Jedi robes. The hijab or the yarmulke are required by their religions. Jedi robes aren't because we know how unpractical they can be. My suggestion to you is that you stop threatening legal action (which in and of itself is horrifying) at every opportunity and that you come to know what the Jedi realist community is all about. There are many websites on the internet I would recommend to you in order for you to understand true Jedi realism. while we in the Jedi realist community disprove of this and other things which you of jedichurch.co.uk have portrayed to the world at large you will find that we also wish to converse with you and get to understand your path and help you further along it. I would hope to hear a reply from you on this matter and for your notes I will be sharing this email message with the Jedi realist community. I and Alethea "Setanaoko" Benton will be interested to hearing back from you and hopefully to clarifying this and other matters. It actually sounds awesome tbh.
So a different intepretation/sect of the same thing has a disagreement with another different intepretation/sect of the same thing, hmm, sounds familiar.
The beauty of Jediism is that it is our own personal religion. We can see teachings as we see fit, although some do choose to wear the robe as part of Jediism. Robes are usually only worn for ceremonial purposes or meditation. This person should indeed have been allowed to keep his hood up, though at the same time he should have demonstrated the patience to lower his hood and go about his day. The hooded robe is not a prequisite. I hope I helped you.
