A friend who lives in San Francisco, maybe. Or who works as a venture capitalist. Or who recently had a birthday. This friend will be wearing an Apple Watch. And at first, you'll giggle. It's a wrist computer! It looks silly, like something out of Dick Tracy. You'll say something snide, like, "Get a lot of dates with that thing?" The friend will laugh good-naturedly. He'll show you some of the things the Apple Watch can do: Twitter notifications, turn-by-turn directions, conversations with Siri. You'll pretend to be wowed. You'll move on to other subjects. Then, a few weeks later, you'll start seeing more of these goofy-looking watches being worn by actual humans. Your boss will get one for Father's Day. They'll raffle one off at a benefit dinner. A hot woman will be wearing one in a restaurant and, somehow, be pulling it off. People will start talking about it in your earshot. Eh, the battery life isn't great, but it saves me a lot of time when I travel. Oh yeah, I use it to pay for stuff. Did you know you can share your heartbeat with this?
Consumerism at its best.
But they already exist, and work better than this? What happened to Apple being an innovative company?

"b-but everyone else is doing it..."
Because Apple totally invented the smart watch. [editline]11th September 2014[/editline] It's still hideous. Is there any pictures of someone actually wearing one?
Did you know you can share your heartbeat with this?
Share my heartbeat? Why?
Share my heartbeat? Why?
So people know when you're jerking off and leave you alone. Or if they're dicks they can interrupt you.
But they already exist, and work better than this? If you want to talk about feature set, the Apple Watch seems to come out of the box with a load of cool functionality that other smartwatch manufacturers haven't got included in theirs. In terms of fashion, no other smartwatch manufacturer offers nearly as much choice or customisation as the Apple Watch seems to. I don't love the Watch, I'm not going to buy one, and part of me thinks the whole wearable technology phenomonon is a bit forced, but it baffles me that people are piling on top of this thing so quickly. How could you possibly know enough about any product less than 48 hours after its announcement (never mind release) to declare that it doesn't work as well as its competitors? It doesn't make me feel like I want or need it out of the box, and that's fine - maybe it's a preference thing, like whether you prefer Android or iOS in the first place. Maybe you have access to some information - or have some expertise in the tech/wearable industry - that I don't. Otherwise, how is this new trend of Apple bashing any different from the bashing they get every time they announce a new device? Personally, I just want to wait and see what happens.
Share my heartbeat? Why?
Perhaps someone can be in the same mood than the OCD kid in The Purge.
fuck iwatch, moto 360 seems to be the way to go. And this "strategy" of theirs seems to rely on everyone having an iphone, which of course, not everyone has an iphone.
But they already exist, and work better than this? What happened to Apple being an innovative company?
Apple was never an innovative company
fuck iwatch, moto 360 seems to be the way to go. Ditto Samsung Gear devices and Samsung Galaxy smartphones. This isn't a mysterious "'strategy' of theirs", it's par for the course.
I know this is the unpopular opinion here, but I really can't wait to get one.
Apple was never an innovative company
I don't know, how many capacitive touchscreen phones did you see before the iPhone? Apple may not innovate themselves, but they take a lot of innovative stuff and shove it in consumer products.
Everywhere i go i see iphones yet i still dont buy an iphone. This is a stupid article.
fuck iwatch, moto 360 seems to be the way to go.
Yees same here.
Maybe you have access to some information - or have some expertise in the tech/wearable industry - that I don't. [editline]sorry buddy[/editline] I'd like to see Apple not do that, but I haven't been impressed by Apple since 1996. Sorry, buddy. :(
I have my cell phone that works fine. I haven't worn a watching at least 5-6 years. Now I haven't done my research on this i-watch but if I want to use apps, dial people, search things why would I leave that on my wrist where I may forget to close my porn?
I don't know, how many capacitive touchscreen phones did you see before the iPhone? Apple may not innovate themselves, but they take a lot of innovative stuff and shove it in consumer products.
apple is innovative in marketing. only reason why they do so well.
Most of the problems from Apple products come from their hardware. This specially happens with iPods and crap. Apple thinks we're in Miami doing jogging or some shit, but here it's mostly rainy and cold, it's San Sebastian, at the north of Spain, and with that, iPods tend to die quickly. I hope this doesn't happen with the rest of Apple products, not that I buyed any after the first iPod, neither that I'm gonna buy any.
The people complaining about Apple marketing their products as 'innovative' are just as annoying as the people who bend over for the company. All companies use these marketing buzzwords and claim that their products are the best, most innovative products on the market. Apple is no different - of course they're going to try and hype up their product to the best of their abilities.
Same would happen with companies like Samsung.
Definitely. I think part of it is people wanting to justify their purchase worth hundreds of dollars (to themselves?). Apple fans bash Samsung, Samsung fans bash Apple, and Android fans bash both!
But, you cannot take it in the shower. No deal.
I don't see why would I want a smart watch Ever If I need to do something other than checking the time on some device, I'd rather do it on my phone which has a much bigger screen, and so is way more comfortable to use And for checking my time I'll just use my regular watch whose battery lasts 7 years before it needs to be replaced :I
But they already exist, and work better than this? What happened to Apple being an innovative company?
Apple hasn't been innovative since wozniak left the company. They always wait til some kind of technology is mature enough to push it to the mainstream, see the ipod, iphone, and macbook air I guess as well.

Changing songs, using voice commands to send a quick text and checking notifications would be slightly more convenient with a smart watch. Not enough to justify a £200+ price tag but on the other hand it makes you look like a secret agent.
But, you cannot take it in the shower. No deal.
When they start making these waterproof I might actually just buy one. I dont know why that sells it so hard for me but it does. Not apple though, since I dont have any apple devices. I have a Samsung at the moment, so I guess its plausible in the near future I could have a waterproof wrist phone, that would be neat
