I need a new GPU to replace my shitty GTS 240. Preferably under/around 2-250 USD. I'll be running things like Garry's mod and Crysis.
I have a i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz. Also Windows 7. Double or single sized (whatever) doesn't matter.
What brand is the psu
I'm not sure, its a prebuilt, where can I find out?
Looks at the psu
You'll need a new psu too

Is this a good one?

GTX465
Yeh but http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150494&cm_re=5850-_-14-150-494-_-Product is far better for 10$ more.
Urm well because i'm presuming its a bad generic one with bad effeciency.
I actually recommend, if you cant raise your budget a bit to get a new psu getting this:

A lot cheaper, and performs onpar/a bit better than the GTX465 and then getting:

Inside your case maybe? Lol
But seriously, open the case up and note down the info on the power supply's label, then post it here.

There's not a label, just a bar code and a serial number.
Not a good sign. Are you absolutely sure there is no label on any side of the PSU? It could possibly be hidden, in which case you'd need to unscrew it to get a good look.
There's a little peice of plastic covering the back, I can't get it off.
Get the model number of the PC, google it and find specs
aren't you the guy with the failienware that has 12 gigs of ram?
Do they sell Alienwares with only a 525W PSU? They tend to like 800-1000W alot..

...yes... and again.. I didn't have a say in what it did and didn't have inside it..

who did then?
also i got the same GPU for £40
The tech guy at where my dad works.
Woops... Never trust the guys at your dad's work.. I don't have experience with Alienware PSU's.. Are they good? I kinda have a feeling that they are of some quality, cause you'll need quality to power those parts.. And yet, it IS a Dell, so everything COULD be fucked up..

hah, alienware isn't exactly known for quality
so many stories of needing tech support, often out of the box

Read that.
So you want to upgrade computers, but you're not permitted to perform a simple task like checking what PSU you have? A bit contradictory, don't you think? Also, who's PC is it - yours, or your mother's? The PSU is a very important part of your computer and it pays to know what it is, however if cannot manage to check, then you could post the model number of your computer instead.
It's there because Alienware hopes you won't be able to open it so that you'll have to send it to them to replace it.

Yes, it is my computer, my mom is just worried I'll break it and someone will have to pay to fix it, because apparently she doesn't believe I can take care of a computer.

You bought an Alienware, I wouldn't trust you with computers either. :colbert:
In HWMonitor, is the first thing on the list the PSU?
