Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the studio has been in contact with Colorado governor John Hickenlooper's office and will contribute to a fund identified by the governor on the website givingfirst.org, which is a program of Colorado's Community First Foundation. The fund distributes monies across several charities that will support victims of the July 20 killing spree that left at least 12 dead and dozens injured. Warner Bros. CEO Barry Meyer also is set to send a companywide email on Monday evening advising employees of the donation and explaining how they can donate personally to the victims. Warner Bros. has reacted swiftly in the wake of the July 20 killing spree at a midnight screening of the latest Batman movie. The studio quickly released a statement saying that Warners "and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time." The Christopher Nolan-directed film grossed a robust $160.9 million in three days, the best opening ever for a 2D film. Warners is the first of the Hollywood organizations to make a charitable gift. Cinemark, which owns the Century Aurora 16 theater where the shooting took place, has yet to announce any donation, nor has the MPAA or the National Association of Theatre Owners.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/dark-knight-rises-shooting-warner-bros-donation-353175
good going wb, you've earned my respect.
Though you might be in favor of all the SOPA/PIPA/CISPA ripoff bills, this is a good move by WB.
Nice!
I've always liked Warner more than Fox and Universal and the others. Their films are just better for one thing
This just shows somebody over at WB has a heart, things like this regain my faith in humanity and show we can still be kind to each other. It's pretty awesome that WB stepped up and offered money to these people, even though the movie really had nothing to do with the shooting. That's an awesome move on their part.
I'm not entirely sure why WB thinks they need to do this, after all they didn't endorse or supply the gunman and didn't order it, but it's nice to see they're helping the victims. Here's hoping a large chunk goes to that guy who has no insurance and just had a kid. He REALLY needs it.
Don't really know why they're doing it other than PR
Don't really know why they're doing it other than PR
Some people are nice, whether or not they own a large company. It could be for PR, I'm just saying it's not entirely out of the question that at least part of the reason was kindness. We're all human beings, after all.
