• Is this a good $2000 rig for both gaming and video making?

After being an idiot and 'creating' (i.e I helped more than I built it) a powerful, albeit terrible overpriced build (two power supplies for two graphics cards) 4 years go, I am planning on creating my first real build. I have saved up money by working part time and as such I have $2000 ready and waiting. This is what I have for such a build: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($359.00 @ CPL Online) Thermal Compound: Arctic Cooling MX4 4g Thermal Paste ($15.00 @ Scorptec) Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($189.00 @ CPL Online) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($209.00 @ Mwave Australia) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($139.00 @ CPL Online) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($165.00 @ CPL Online) Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card ($535.00 @ CPL Online) Case: Cougar Challenger-O (Black/Orange) ATX Mid Tower Case ($89.00) Power Supply: Corsair CSM 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($149.00 @ PCCaseGear) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($115.00 @ CPL Online) Total: $1964.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-11-09 12:59 EST+1100 I can probably get cheaper parts from the US since australian prices are crazy. Is this good for both gaming and video making? Also, is this overkill for 1080p? Should I move up to 1440p as a result?
This thing wont even run Zork. You should rethink it.
If you're going to spend that much, you should get an aftermarket CPU cooler, the OEM Intel cooler is complete shite. I would also get a case with less rice, like an Antec P280.
Also an unlocked processor.

And hardly a window Do you know of other good cases with fans included that isn't bad with wire management? Preferably also one that doesn't have a window.
Also an unlocked processor.
I'm not planning on overclocking anytime soon. Should I be with this price range?
And a less ricer PSU.
1. How is a PSU ricy? 2. What PSU do you recommend? Also, can I please get an answer to this
Also, is this overkill for 1080p? Should I move up to 1440p as a result?
as well? EDIT: I should also probably mention what I want to play. It rather depends on what I'm interested at times, but the end goal is to play future games at either full 1080p or full 1440p resolution all graphic settings to full for a while.
Fractal Design Define R4 has some fans and it comes in a few colors, with or without windows. Same price (in US at least) and no rice. Also supposed to be pretty quiet.
What the hell does it matter? If he likes how the case looks, it's what he likes.
Is this a better build? You do not need a Z97 board if you're not overclocking. You'll do fine with an H97.
Get Arctic Silver 5 for your Thermal Compound. Aside from that, no point in not getting an overclockable CPU - it's not a hard thing to do.
I am really not a fan of Arctic Silver 5. Twice I've had that conductive shit melt after prolonged use and short out boards. There are plenty of pastes that both perform better and are cheaper that aren't conductive.
Might as well get a 4790k if you're going to pay that much for a cpu.

Corsair air 540 Corsair C70 Phantecks Enthoo Pro Fractal Design Arc XL ( has a window but it's smoked black.... i'm not an led guy but it looks really nice and has that stealth look really great case I personally have it myself I suggest it) All of these have sidewindows but offer really good cable management and airflow... the NZXT h440 has poor airflow and the fractal design r4 has not the best airflow aswell but not as bad as the H440
Ok, now I'm slightly confused. At this price range, do I need overclocking or not? (and, in case you are wondering, this is not a 6-month-away build - I'm planning on getting the parts soon, like next week.)
For the time being I'm fairly confident you won't need overclocking
For how easy overclocking is, you really should just do it. It's an easy 20%+ on performance.
I've decided that I do want to overclock somewhere down the line. Assuming that this is the final build, is this a good idea?
