Speaking to Japanese outlet The Nikkei, president Satoru Iwata says that he hasn’t ruled out aligning Nintendo with another company. “We should abandon old assumptions about our businesses. We are considering M&As as an option,” Iwata says. “For this reason, we'll step up share buybacks."
uh oh
nintendo that is not a good idea please tell me that it's a purely theoretical thing that they literally just haven't explicitly ruled out and not something that's actively thought about
I'll bid £5 for the company.
Nintendo merges with Capcom and Sega, Y/N?
a merger might not be so bad but outright acquisition of nintendo has a high chance of being death and despair
Nintendo merges with Capcom and Sega, Y/N?
Given Capcom's business practices and having been a horrible company for years now, hell no.
a merger might not be so bad but outright acquisition of nintendo has a high chance of being death and despair
What if Nintendo is the one doing the acquiring.
What if Nintendo is the one doing the acquiring.
should they really be spending money like that? though if they acquired someone with a lot of great IPs (like capcom) it could be pretty hype
Nintendo merges with Capcom and Sega, Y/N?
Yes. I want a glitched out Mario game with DLC
Yes. I want a glitched out Mario game with DLC
yeah and i want a dark. Gritty wub-boot of the legend of zelda outsourced by an outside company :v:
should they really be spending money like that? though if they acquired someone with a lot of great IPs (like capcom) it could be pretty hype
Makes more sense to me actually. They've got tons of money, but they're not making new money.
Not sure what to think of this, really. Kinda hope it just stays a consideration..
I hope they're leaning more toward acquisitions than mergers.
more like murder or execution
Merge with Valve?
Merge with Valve?
Oh how their hatsmiths wish that would happen.
Whatever happens, I hope they don't ruin the zelda franchise. I would rather see it retired than have some new company fuck it up. However, this could be the end of nintendo's overly protective way of making online interaction, which to me is a good thing.
bring back the triforce
I can see Nintendo acquiring Sega but then that would probably mean we'd never see a Sega-published title on a non-Nintendo system ever agian.
Merge with Valve?
I'm surprised this got dumb votes. I wouldn't want Nintendo to merge with anyone, but if it has to be done its better they merge with a respectable company than become the bitch of someone horrible (such as Microsoft or EA).
What's the deal with nintendo and rare? Is there any chance they could buy them back?
A Nintendo-Konami merger would be pretty awesome, now I think of it...
Merge with Valve?
This bring to mind the idea of an obligate Oculus Rift game that uses a Wiimote. I am unsure what to make of it.
What's the deal with nintendo and rare? Is there any chance they could buy them back?
Rare is an empty shell of a company now, since most of the original staff has left or been fired. If Nintendo ever bought Rare back, it would probably be for the IPs. Also the rumor going around is that Nintendo is considering the purchase of PlatinumGames.
Who would they even merge with? Also, who the hell has enough money to acquire Nintendo?
EA.
also i'd like to share that nintendo's already been doing this for a while. they bought mobiclip a while back and bought shares in dwango. neither are really related to games though. especially in dwango's case. so it's not just game devs they're looking to acquire.
and the nintendo-sega saga ends
I wouldn't be surprised if they have intentions to acquire Sega (and by extension, Atlus) in the future. At least, the Sonic exclusivity deal (which includes Sonic traversing through Legend of Zelda and Yoshi's Story themed levels), Mario & Sonic Olympic games and Nintendo's decision to help develop Bayonetta 2 make it seem like they are either heading to that or to just a close relationship like Level 5 has (another potential acquisition that would seem logical). Platinum Games definitely wouldn't be an off guess, either.
Platinum Games is the most likely. Bayonetta, Wonderful 101.
