• Cubans and Russians may drill near Florida shore

The Russian and Cuban governments have contracted for Russian energy companies to search for oil and natural gas deposits in the North Cuba Basin within 45 miles of the Florida Keys. Should Russian energy companies find and recover oil and natural gas in the basin, they would be drilling closer to Florida shores than U.S. companies are allowed to drill. As part of a deal signed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, Russia is given oil-and-gas exploration rights in Cuba’s economic zone in the Gulf of Mexico, while Cuba receives a $150 million credit from Moscow for the purchase of agricultural equipment and construction materials. “Whether the Russians ultimately drill in Cuban waters a mere 45 miles from the Florida Keys or much farther away near the western tip of Cuba, it is indeed ironic that in all likelihood they will still be drilling closer to Florida’s shores than U.S. companies are allowed to do,” said Robert F. Sanchez, policy director of the James Madison Institute in Tallahassee, Florida. “Moreover, if the Russians do find significant amounts of oil and gas in Cuba’s territorial waters, it will only serve to strengthen the Kremlin’s ability to practice petro-diplomacy, using its plentiful supplies of oil and gas to exert pressure on the nations that are dependent on those supplies,” Sanchez explained. Sanchez notes the huge potential reserves of oil and natural gas off Florida’s coasts could create jobs and increase state and federal tax revenues if U.S., rather than foreign, companies extract such resources. Said Sanchez, “Tapping into those resources in an environmentally safe manner not only would benefit the nation as a whole by decreasing its reliance on imported energy, but the lease fees and royalties would directly benefit Florida’s economy, which would also stand to benefit indirectly from the ancillary jobs created in support of the offshore activities.” Source You tried to remove communism from Russia and instill a capitalist government. :v:
Cuban Oil Crisis America if you threaten us we will shoot oil at you
You have a fetish for Russians and drilling or something?
We invade at dawn. Their cigars will be ours.
You have a fetish for Russians and drilling or something?
Nah, just trying to insert more Russian news into the news-section because the quality of content is lacking. Gas just happens to be the topic of discussion.
We invade at dawn. Their cigars will be ours.
Not if we invade you first.
Not if we invade you first.
Adolf Hitler is going to lead Cuba against the Americans? It sounds like some shit from a bad Red Alert game.
So wait, foreign companies are allowed to drill closer than American companies? Who came up with that plan?
I wouldn't be surprised if the US congress makes a lightning-proposal from oil companies to drill outside Florida now.
Thous darn commies.
So wait, foreign companies are allowed to drill closer than American companies? Who came up with that plan?
Liberals and environmentalists.
I live in Florida and I don't care about this. Go for it, guys.
If Bush was in power he'd be going batshit. [editline]10:10AM[/editline]
I live in Florida and I don't care about this. Go for it, guys.
That's not the point, it's the fact they are taking oil that should be OURS, but we can't drill it because a couple skinny hippies refuse to give up their failing concepts of environmentalism (we're doing so much to try and help, and STILL we are acting as though nothing is happening?) Plus this means Russia will get a large monopoly on oil, and guess what? We'll have to bend over to take their huge oil soaked cock if we want any fuel. I mean God Damn, they're probably taking the oil reserve that would've altered global gas prices drastically if we started drilling.

cuba wins again
I thought the thread was on about military (naval) drills when I first read the title. Silly me.
America drills all everywhere, so can Russia.
America drills all everywhere, so can Russia.
America doesn't drill just off the coast of Russia. Or do they...? :raise:
Boy, Russia has really been trying to push America's buttons lately.
Boy, Russia has really been trying to push America's buttons lately.
America has no choice. Since America is in deep recression and Russia has always been helpful to Cuba.

They have a lot of European Nations by their balls with oil. This will just make that advantage so much heavier.
I thought this was like, military drills, and was gonna be all "O Shit Red Dawn".
lol. it would be so much more cost effective if they just built a nuclear power plant.
Russia's starting to give Cuba a hand? Cold War Pt. II, coming soon.
Russia can drill of our shores... but we can't? damn those stupid hippies.
Even if american oil companies were allowed to drill closer to shore, would they still be even allowed to drill where the Russian companies are, in Cuban territory?
