http://www.buzzfeed.com/saeedjones/san-francisco-pride-sparks-outrage-by-naming-bradley-manning
As noted in a statement from the Bradley Manning Support Network, Manning, who has admitted to leaking nearly 700,000 confidential government documents to WikiLeaks, will not be able to attend the ceremonies. He will be represented, instead, by Pentagon Papers' whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg. Even still, many LGBT activists are furious about the message being sent by the San Francisco Pride organizers' decision.
Interesting. There seems to be a huge divide on this.
I don't even know what this means or is about. I am very confused.
Manning is a hero.
I'm assuming its a gay pride "prom king / queen", and Bradley manning was named "Grand Marshall" or their king / queen. That's what I got out of the article.
Are they mad about the fact that he's elected, the title or that he ain't coming? I can't make much sense of the article
I think they're mad that he's being elected grand marshall of a pride convention/thing, but he's not gay.
you should try reading the article geniuses
I think they're mad that he's being elected grand marshall of a pride convention/thing, but he's not gay.
But he is gay.
Because of the army's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy (known as DADT, which was repealed in September 2011), he was not allowed to be openly gay, though he apparently made no secret of it;

I think they're mad that he's being elected grand marshall of a pride convention/thing, but he's not gay.
But the article says he's gay and trans
I think they're mad that he's being elected grand marshall of a pride convention/thing, but he's not gay.
uhm
They are angry with him because they believe he is a traitor for releasing hundreds of thousands of classified documents to Wikileaks. He is gay, and was treated poorly within the military.
As I suspected then. Feels kinda stupid that people in a movement for equality among sexuality gets pissy because of that.
why is it stupid for gay soldiers to have different opinions on bradley manning?
you should try reading the article geniuses
the article is clearly aimed at people that keep up-to-date with all the lbgt news, of course we're not all going to know hwat it's about
they think he's a poor choice for Grand Marshall because he's a traitor and he would misrepresent all LGBT soldiers as being untrustworthy scumbags
the article is clearly aimed at people that keep up-to-date with all the lbgt news, of course we're not all going to know hwat it's about
the article says what its about, it has nothing to do with lgbt issues
As I suspected then. Feels kinda stupid that people in a movement for equality among sexuality gets pissy because of that.
Why would it be even slightly weird for gay soldiers to be pissed off about someone they consider a traitor winning?
It's disturbing to see how many in our armed forces are willing to turn against each other to please the higher ranking officials.
Why would it be even slightly weird for gay soldiers to be pissed off about someone they consider a traitor winning?
He won because they considered him noteworthy to the LGBT community because of LGBT-related issues, not because of what he did related to wikileaks. That issue is unrelated.
They don't want him being a hero for leaking documents
They don't want him being a hero for leaking documents
He exposed war crimes, you expect him to deal with that without leaking information?
why is it stupid for gay soldiers to have different opinions on bradley manning?
All us LGBT folk are a hivemind, dontcha know?
People who think he's some kind of traitor are just misinformed by all the propaganda against him. As soon as I get in a debate with these people and explain just what the information he leaked WAS they always go "oh I didn't know that". It's ridiculous how people just listen to whatever they are told and then believe it. I'd love to see all the militarists and assholes who create and spread propaganda like that with their fucking heads on pikes some day. Fuck the militarists, fuck them all.
